I think we see Smith back on a one year deal. He was hot garbage at the beginning of the year but he's really settled down. I think the Flames brass are tired of the goalie carousel and would like to see some consistency between the pipes. Smith and Rittich next year with the big club. They'll probably go with three tenders in the AHL because Parsons is a wildcard. |

Irish !
Yeah, I agree Ol_Boy, as long as Smitty doesn't poop the sheets in the playoffs and he's willing to accept a lesser role. Keeping in mind he was brought in as the no. 1 and he's a 1a/1b now. As far as the AHL, I guess 3 goalies battling for 2 spots....assuming nobody pushes their way into the conversation from the ECHL affiliate. I like the competition and the whole fighting for jobs idea. On a side note, if they do want to buyout Gillies, cap geek says its only $125k. |

I don't think they'd have to buy out Gillies. Someone would be willing to take a chance on a goalie his size and age. He's still young in regards to goalies so there may be something there.
Honestly, Parsons has a higher ceiling than Gillies, but with his issues I'm not sure that he'll be in the organization much longer. I'm really hoping he can work through whatever he's got going on because he's a good goalie when he's right. More importantly, I hope he works through it for himself. |

I doubt very much that they buyout Gillies. Be just our luck that he’s sent packing and he turns into something. They took him overseas and left Rittich here so they must see something in hm.
As for Smitty, he’ll be looking for a 2 year deal and I’m ok with that as long as it for less $. Not many ufa’s that have played in the NHL sign 1 year deals. Actually wouldn’t be suprized if he starts in net for the playoffs. He’s really worked hard to turn hos game around. Rittich will be waiting if he falters. |

Smitty is 37 I can’t see him getting a 2 year deal. I wouldn’t be surprised if he hangs them up after this year honestly. |

Todd’s awal again! I can see mid season not blogging on the weekends, but crap this is an important game. A small blurb to start the conversation would be nice.
5 things to watch
1 Tkachuk runs Jones
2 Tkachuk face washes Couture
3 Tkachuk scores from between his legs
4 Tkachuk hauled down for a penalty shot
5 Tkachuk challenge the Sharks bench |

Neal playing better lately which will be good come playoffs. Smith wants that playoff start badly, you can see it with how much better he’s been playing lately and his focus level I feel like. |

James Neal playing his best game. Laying some big hits and making good plays. Keep it going Neal. Would give us another gear if he can play like this in playoffs |

He's playing well tonight! Would've liked to see him fire off a couple of more shots when he passed instead but overall he's been good since he came back from injury. |

Kind of surprising. I guess they really want to rest some guys over the next week. They already have three healthy defencemen sitting every game, and I doubt Valimaki gets into a playoff game ahead of any of them.

I’d put him in before Prout. He’ll play in these next games, should see where he’s at. [/img] |

Prout is the kind of physical, character guy that excels in the playoffs and the coaches love him. Don't really know what's up with Stone or how the coaches feel about him, so maybe Valimaki would be ahead of him.
Can't see him getting in ahead of Kylington, Fantenberg, or Prout unless they're decimated with injuries. Valimaki still isn't great defensively and that's not the type of guy you want to plug into your bottom pairing in a pinch. It's not the time of year to tell a rookie to go out and play his game and not to worry about mistakes.
He actually hasn't even been officially called up yet. He just wasn't in the Stockon lineup tonight. |
