Sabres with the king of hockey, ROR, finish dead last, last season. Secure rights to draft what could possibly be a legit franchise defenseman.

I guess we should have kept him. Probably could have drafted Hughes.

Damn you, Botts!

Mostly speculation
Especially what the return would be for him
Why would his value drop if he did the same thing over again?

And this whole convo is just insane
How much has Tage’s 12points helped?
How much has Sobatka’s 13points helped?
Yes...
Tage actually has LESS POINTS than Sobatka
And do i need to bring up the speedy Berglund?

COMBINED... those 3 have about half the points ROR would’ve gotten here (even if still used incorrectly)

But yeah...
let’s diminish the 60ish points O’Reilly would’ve gotten

Unfreaking real

- jdfitz77

Because he’d be a year older and another year into obscurity on Buffalo.

You don’t think Ristolainen’s value is dropping by the minute?

Here’s further proof we don’t miss O’Reilly that much

The real tragedy this season was Phil never letting Reinhart and Mittelstadt get going

They should be a pair next season for sure. We will never get anywhere loading up one line. As good as Skinner-Eichel-Reinhart were for a stretch of games it didn’t lead to team success.

As much as I hate where this team is, they really aren’t that bad outside of goaltending.

We are definitely better than last year and have assets and cap space going forward

I thought the line of Shaery- Mitts - Reinhart showed pretty well for the times they were together.
So many head scratching decisions regarding line combinations, player utilization and development of the younger players.
What a completely wasted season, hardly anything positive and little to build off of.

You’re not wrong. Skinner leaving would hurt short term but long term it might not make much of a difference. Dahlin, Mittelstadt, Thompson, Nylander and Olofsson will all have another offseason of professional development. We have not seen the best from Eichel or Reinhart either. We have a lot of cap space and will be adding another stud this year in the draft. We are not as far as our record indicates.

if stinklander and olofsson can get 20-25 goals in the NHL next year, IMO we are better off spending that 9 mil per on a d man

trouba

or throw karlsson 12 mil

I’ve heard Botts wants Karlsson, but there’s no chance he comes here

Cup teams are built down the middle and have horses on the backend. Even Washington had a combo of Backstrom/Kuznetsov which was the best duo in the league when it mattered most in the playoffs. A d-corps of Carlson, Niskanen, Orlov, Kempney, Orpik with Barry Trotz at the controls. Penguins with Sid and Gino. Hawks just had incredible depth with Toews/Bolland/Anisimov and 4 lines of offensive talent and Keith/Seabrook/Hjalmarsson on the back end.

I say let Skinner walk to New York.

Spend the money elsewhere. Olofsson and Nylander should make up the difference next year and I expect 20/20 from Mitts.

Better off spending that money on Duchene/Hayes tbh or a d-man like Karlsson or Trouba like Homie mentioned.

Some of us had realistic expectations from those 3. I wanted Bailey to get more of a look but the other two I was never high on.

The real tragedy of this season is nobody did ANYTHING to see whether we could have more than one scoring line.

Phil didn’t really commit to any alternative line combos to let themdevelope chemistry.

Botts never brought up prospects to give them a real chance to see if they could come into the mix.

So now we are where we always have been: an incomplete NHL roster hoping, but not sure, a future infusion of talent can change things next year.

Nylander with Larsson and Sheary. Well done Housley. Nothing like setting a young player up to succeed. For the life of me, why doesn't he flip Pommer and Nylander?
