Strome and Cat are playing for an historic franchise, and are apparently great friends. I'm gonna guess they both come to agreements to stay here. But, who knows..... - mohel
Likely if they get along with the coaching staff and keep getting lots of TOI, they will likely be happy to sign a fair contract in Chicago. Don't see much reason right now either would want out. They've stayed out of the doghouse and been given opportunity to earn that $$$. |

Strome has stated he wants to be a Blackhawk for life.
Of course, that and 2 bucks will get you a candy bar. |

They are both RFA. I know you are aware. The market for them is pretty limited. This off-season may change the landscape regarding RFA with all the names out there.
Personally think it will be more the Saad situation. Teams will say they are preparing to offer sheet someone and try to work out a deal. |

Scmaltz is an RFA who’s ELC ended this season, DeBrincat’s and Strome’s ELC ends after the 2019-20 season. Wonder how that affects things, how soon does Bowman try to get the guys signed after July 1st. - walleyeb1
Ok so I’m updating myself. FWIW Strome has the same agent as Horvat (Mark Guy). He seems to like to let things draw out to the end.
DeBrincat has the same agent as McDavid and Ekblad (Jeff Jackson). Both were signed in early July of there of their final contract years. Guess he likes to take care of business early! |

If the Hawks want to buy Seabs out, there is not much of a cap savings. The capfriendly site has a calculator which would give the exact numbers for the cap hit going forward.
Don't know if 7 waives to get closer to "home" in BC. He has a home in Chicago too, doesn't he? Why uproot the family if he is not obliged to.
Even if he does waive, another hurdle is how to entice Seattle to take on that contract? Some high draft choices and/or top prospects I would think. - boilermaker100
But if he waives, they don’t have to protect him - and can use that protection for someone else.
I think. |

They will both look to maximize their earnings, as they should. Hopefully Stan can sign them both to a mutually beneficial contract. |

Not like they have many options rn. Someone wants to offer sheet them, take the picks and move on.

Its not just one guy. 19/88/12/17/20 will take up $42MM in cap - SIX guys. - Return of the Roar

They can ask them to waive for just for the expansion draft. Its what the Pens did with MAF. No one would take either one of them.

19/88/12/17/20 = 5 guys
add in 2/7 that = $54.5MM for 7 guys

Just to refresh - the comp picks for last summer were:
$6MM-$8MM = 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Hawks would most likely match an offer in this range.
$8MM-$10MM - 2 first, a second, and a third. Unlikely anyone offers here.
The ranges will increase for the summer of 2020, but I would think the conclusions would hold. |

I figured out a scenario for Seabrook to want out of Chicago. If Jabba the Hutt Prtizker get his new tax plan implemented, Seabs talks to his financial advisor and determines the proposed 7.95% Illinois state income tax rate for millionaires is too steep to pay and requests a trade to a 0% tax state like Texas, Florida, Tennessee or Nevada or waives to Seattle. (Washington another 0% tax rate state). |

Remember. Compensation is based on 5 years. Or less if the contract term is less than 5 years. |

Toronto's top 5 guys next year - with Marner at $10M - will be at $45.85. Top 7 - $55.85M. |

Yes, indeed. What the gloomers fail to mention when barking that the Hawks salary structure is too top heavy is that it looks like lots of other teams. |

Same with the no move contracts - the Hawks haven’t given out have appreciably more than other teams. |
