Same here: Sikura hands down for similar reasons stated.
- AEL_Fox

The problem with Sikura, is that he can’t/won’t/doesn’t score. He’s going to be one of those guys that plays well, is responsible at both ends of the ice, and averages 8 goals a year over his career.

34 centers have higher cap hit this year than Schmaltz' new deal. So, if he plays up to a true 1C, then a good deal for Phoenix. But he'll likely be an average 2C and he is an RFA, so probably a fair deal to slightly rich. Down to ~65 centers make at least $4.75 (cap hit), so with inflation over six year term, not ridiculous. Personally, I'd prefer quite a few other 2C for the same money over Schmaltz.

ADB and Strome are each RFA. If they sign longer term deals, I could see ADB 7x7 and Strome 6x6.25.

Good research. Thanks. But Strome not a RFA til after next season.

Schmaltz 7 years at $5.85 mil. He has one season of 50+ points and blew out his knee this year....Chayka is going full Chiarelli, never go full Chiarelli!

Powers article just up on the cost to sign DeBrincat and Strome. He projects Dcat at $ 7-8 M AAV, and a total of $13-15 M AAV for the two of them.

Good read. Thanks.
There's a definite need for defensively minded d-men.

- 35Tony0

Need to put that knowledge with seeing a few games in person or maybe a couple in person and a few on the tube. Paired with Mitchell is intriguing but uncertain if that turns Mitchell into a third pair should they both advance to NHL. I recall reading an old story which described how Hillman would take off up ice with puck then blast a powerful slapshot. So i am curious if he can do that now although not as the main puck carrier in his pair. Also the article spoke about his skating and i thought he was supposed to be ok. That first three strides is not necessarily implying he is a lumbering sort skater. I know AEL_FOX can speak about these points.

The problem with Sikura might just be he’s played only 36 games in the Show - after putting up pretty good numbers at Northeastern and Rockford.

Maybe we should wait for the full report, not just the short summary of it.

Powers reporting Caggiula is back in the lineup tonight - Perlini out. Also Dahlstrom back in and Koekkoek out. Hmmm ... who were the 2 guys with the most obvious bonehead plays last game? It would have been interesting to see if Caggiula wasn't ready to play if Hayden would have replaced Perlini ... I suspect yes.

Or maybe he scores but more like 25 -30. As a comparison about if he is ready or we can expect a greater degree of consistency, recall how the board was all over Saad when he debuted

If Tinkerbell got almost $6MM ths is bad for two reasons:

1. ADB and Strome are worth FAR more
2. Don’t count on bridge deals or team friendly discounts.

There is no way these two guys don’t get combined money of over $15MM and yes - NMCs. Any center scoring 50+ points and goes to the dirty areas at 22 isn’t going to settle for less than $7MM. Thinking Strome will only get $5-6MM is a seriuosly kush influenced opinion. Especially with another full season ahead to allow the market and his stats to rise.

Like I said - the Hawks can absoultely forget about ANY meaningful FA siginings until after the expansion draft.

There please has to be a way Seabrook retires before the expansion draft and he is handed a scouting job for the exact same pay and term that remainded on his ludicrous cotract. We cannot loose a good player because we are forced to protect Seabrook. Interesting how well Toews and Keith perform the first year of expansion. Both are dedicated to fitness athletes but both will have a ton of tread on those tires......they won' t be spring chickens but will be grizzled veterans. No fizzle in that first expansion season?

Seabrook was born on BC- Seattle is a suburb of BC - maybe Seabrook waves his No-whatever and becomes draft eligible or gets traded there to save another player....

Maybe.

If Seattle would want him.

We cannot do a buyout or any incentive to convince him to waive this no movement whatever clause?

[quote=AEL_Fox]Sounds about right. DeBrincat at $7.5M to $8M + Strome at $5M to $6M.

Schmaltz' 5.85M also sets the bar for this summer's crop of RFA's like Laine, Point, Karlsson, Kapanen, and Johnsson.

- boilermaker100

Scmaltz is an RFA who’s ELC ended this season, DeBrincat’s and Strome’s ELC ends after the 2019-20 season. Wonder how that affects things, how soon does Bowman try to get the guys signed after July 1st.

Its not just one guy. 19/88/12/17/20 will take up $42MM in cap - SIX guys.

If the Hawks want to buy Seabs out, there is not much of a cap savings. The capfriendly site has a calculator which would give the exact numbers for the cap hit going forward.

Don't know if 7 waives to get closer to "home" in BC. He has a home in Chicago too, doesn't he? Why uproot the family if he is not obliged to.

Even if he does waive, another hurdle is how to entice Seattle to take on that contract? Some high draft choices and/or top prospects I would think.

I bet Stan would like to sign him right after July 1. Does Cat and his agent roll the dice to see if he has a repeat 19-20 season and see what the market bears in a year?

Yes, good point.

Edit - But would he hold out like Nylander?

Fair deal for Schmaltz and probably a bargain in the later years of it. It was too bad he got that knee injury, but probably going to be a top player for Arizona for a long time. Wish him well.

Strome and Cat are playing for an historic franchise, and are apparently great friends. I'm gonna guess they both come to agreements to stay here. But, who knows.....

The next Gold Dust twins, after Kane and Toews, eh? They will probably be doing Chevy commercials soon. LOL.
