He has physical attributes. He needs to play with confidence and he will blossom. - SteveRain
Or he doesn't have the mental make-up. How many times does he need to be given the same message? |

IMO they need a top pairing guy as you currently don't have one of those. However, I realize it wont' happen with their cap situation....
So can they survive with a legit 2nd pairing guy (acquired via UFA or trade) Murphy and Keith, basically 3, 3/4s, Gus, Seabrook and insert X rookie with CD?
I do agree on the system.....id shop 15 and 20 this offseason and hope you can unload both for cap space and go get a D man or two - SteveRain
You aren't going to get cap space by moving those 2. I would surprised if their replacement didn't cost more. Kampf isn't a 3C. |

They will resign him in hopes they can get through to him. That part is on him but reading his quotes about fate, etc.....tells you mentally fragile. NO question.
Just saying you can see skill when he plays with confidence. |

AA possibly....somebody may take a flier on Saad still. I think he's a lost cause. Plays well in bursts, but far from consistent.
I like 64. Solid PK guy, IMO more skill then 16. |

Obviously Perlini has the physical tools to be a good NHL player so the problem to be solved is between his ears. To paraphrase Eddie - a player must accept and execute his role and I think Perlini sometimes tries to be too cute. That kick of the puck last night was a case in point - a simpler play was available but instead of making the right play it seemed like he tried to be a "show off" and make a play that would get oohs and ahs from the fans. He hasn't come to accept his role that he is not a "fancy Dan" type of player and to try to be what he isn't hurts the team and will get him shown the exit from the NHL. Does he have the mental and emotional ability to learn and accept his role? That's the question - isn't it. - EbonyRaptor
That description of Perlini looks similar to what could be said about Hayden.
Sikura, on the other hand, has admittedly evolved his game to use his strengths to help the team in the role he is given but not trying to be something he's not (at least not yet). He may never be an elite forward in the NHL like he was in the NCAA but he can still be a reliable contributor in the top 9 who can play well across 200 feet. |

If DeBrincat was 4 inches taller he'd be Brett Hull.
Tyler, if I could hijack the thread to ask a question I'm sure has been asked before.. Who on defense do we target in the offseason? It's clear that scoring is not the problem. - Q-stache
If I was 4 inches taller, I’d be Steph Curry.
If I had any talent. |

It's interesting that we talk about guys having "all the tools". All the tools includes the mental AND emotional ability to flourish. It's often assumed that these attributes can simply be added like flour to the cake. Not so fast, Kawalski.
What would the board be saying about him if he were Russian? Bad words. |

Not many sold options. UFA market is not good, and it is unlikely they're going to go the RFA route. I wish they would, but I don't think they will. And Top 4 guys cost a boatload in a trade.
Do you have any targets in mind? - mohel
I forgot who mentioned it, but Vegas is in a boatload of trouble cap wise. Colin Miller or Brendan McNabb would be a good get.

I know.. not sure Gardiner solves the problem (is he UFA?)
Maybe, Stralman, Giradi or Benn? With all of the offensively minded young guns on or near the roster it would help to have a big body that can clear the crease. Stralman is probably the smallest of that bunch.
What do y'all think?

I like Kampf. A lot. Once they get him some better wingers, he will be a vg shutdown anchor. That is the role for him. |

What would the Hawks need to give up? Can't be salary, because Vegas can't do Saad or AA. Draft picks, or one of the prized defense kids. |

He'll be fine. Glue him to a line with Strom and DeBrincat and put Saad up with Toews and Kane.
Kahun Kampf AA is a very formidable 3rd line, and you have Caggiula as a guy who can slide up from a checking role to a top line role.
But yes, lets go out and sign Danault!!!!!! - SteveRain
While I like Anisimov and Kahun on the 3rd line, Kampf is not a 3rd liner. Colliton played him up earlier in the season due to lack of depth but Kampf is best fit for the 4th line and has the makings of a stellar shutdown center.
The 3rd line still needs to contribute offensively, ideally 35-45 points per player, and Kampf on it hurts those chances. Anisimov and Kahun can be 0.50 PPG players but need to be surrounded by skilled players.
Haven't heard that Danault rumor but if he could be reacquired, he would be a solid choice for 3C and is a more well rounded player compared to Kampf. Not to mention better at faceoffs (55% vs 45%). |

Hawks already have their Gardiner in Gustafsson but a lot cheaper. Girardi? Isn't Seabrook enough in that vein? Benn is another bottom pair guy. Hawks have enough of those. Stralman is gonna be 33. That would make half the Hawks' D 33 or older. If Stralman wants a 1 or 2 year deal, I would be fine with him. I think someone will offer him more term, tho. |

William Karlsson, Brayden McNabb for Carl Dahlstrom and a second. Karlsson is an RFA that hey cannot sign either.

That face off difference amount to 1-3 per game. Most likely 2. |

Heck. I haven't paid much attention to Vegas' situation. No need to give them anything but a 4th and a C prospect. They are at 82M for next season already. They can't take any salary. They are such bad shape, it looks like Tallon is handing out contracts there. |

Take a look at their contracts for next season. They really can't take any salary back. At all. They would need to move 2-3 players to even have a chance to sign Karlsson. |
