Magic number is now 8 - Upstate_isles
I'm not the slightest bit worried that they'll miss the playoffs. I just want them going into the playoffs playing well. The Pens or the Canes will be be tough series. If they're not ready they'll be playing golf before they know what hit them. |

Team came up huge today when there were like three of four moments where it felt like the bottom might fall out. |

Definitely. Isles dominated. Game wouldn't have been so close but for that flukey Flyers goal in the first. |

It's almost unfathomable that it can, even unintentionally, be THAT bad. And yet it is. |

I don’t want to sound like a broken record but the power play is an abortion and I can’t believe Trotz hasn’t changed it. Is Lou handcuffing him as far as Gomez is concerned? Under 3% completion rate? That’s got to be the worst in the league.
How can it continue like this without something drastic changing?
Like others have said, I believe if it was even average we would be in first in the division. |

No question about it. We're only one point out of first. An occasional extra pp goal during the season would certainly be worth a couple of more wins and/or regulation ties.
However, I read a while back that Trotz takes on much of the pp responsibility himself. It isn't just Gomez directing things. So while we can all agree that the pp sucks, and something has to change, it may involve more than just replacing Gomez. Nevertheless, that's definitely where Lou has to start. |

I feel the PP performance is attributed to lack of forwards (Bailey, barzal, eberle, etc...) that can bury the puck + poor shooting talent on the blue line. Pulock has a shot but placement is horrible. |

I agree John. I'm fine with getting rid of Gomez, but I do not think it's a magic cure all. It's clear to me this team does not have enough shooters. We've seen how this team loves to pass 5 on 5 so why would it magically go away with the PP? I cannot believe Gomez is telling them just use most of the PP just passing it around. |

I don’t think it’s a lack of shooters because we scored a lot of goals last year and only lost PJB.
IMO, they pass too much and telegraph who they are setting up to shoot. Gomez was talking to the power play unit before the 5 on 3. It resulted in 2 whole shots.
They have been switching up the personnel but not the structure. Bottom line is they need to shoot more. |

By that reasoning, we should also keep Gomez, because we "scored a lot of goals last year" and Gomez was in charge of the PP last year. |

If Gomez is here after this season it’s solely based on his relationship with Lameriello which I suspect is the reason that he’s still here to begin with. |
