. I think J.T’s defensive game is miles ahead of Eichel’s but Eichel has the better offensive game. Eichel’s production has fallen off from 1.15 PPG to 1.07 PPG these past few weeks but the whole team has cratered and at the end of the day have nothing to play for.

I think Jack can be better offensively in his prime then JT and he becomes half as good as JT is in his own end, we will be in good shape |

I would be curious how they were ranked by hockey writers at the end of this season
my guess would be
matthews 1
jt 2
jack 3
marner 4

J.T has never had a 90 point season. If Eichel played a full 82 games and we played meaningful hockey for the whole 82 the sky is the limit for Eichel. Now if we’re nitpicking Atlantic division Centres, the one I’m most jealous of doesn’t play for the Leafs, he resides in the state of Florida. |

I think this is what it would look like as well. However once we have a competent coaching staff and 6-8 more “hockey” players instead of the crap we put out there every night Eichel can shoot up to #1 in the blink of an eye. |

I don't think it's a particularly hot take, really. Matthews might be the third best in that group, too. Trust me, it pains me to say it, and I truly dislike the Leafs. - SoCalPucks
I'm not saying eichels better then all 3 of those guys either.
No way all 3 are better then him.
Maybe not a hot take, but more a bad take
They are similar level, I would think eichel has more trade value then traveres.
How are we judging this? |

I don't think they'd put Jack in the same category as them.
The collective hard on for the Leafs would create a ranking in between Nylander, Kadri and Jack. Who knows what order they would chose for those three. Jack's probably last. |

One guy definitely played better then my expectations.
Samson had a great middle 45 games this year.
Dahlin is as advertised
Skinner better then expected
Pilut looked great out of nowhere
Pommer above expectations bei g the 4th leadi g goal scorer
Bogo playing decent hockey and not being injured
The other 12 disappointed pretty much |

oh it's all splitting hairs of course
jt had 66 points in 59 games 1 year
jt never had the wow factor jack has which could in turn 1 year put up 120 points if given the right wingers
who is the center
barkov?
stamkos?
point? |

I like this. Even looking at all of the defenseman we have drafted (apart from samuelsson) they have all been mobile offensive d-men. I’m sure if Karlsson was available, Botts would at least inquire. |

His stats would suggest, yes. I tend to agree.
Small sample size, but Nylander has been one of our best forwards too.
It isn't all bad, just mostly bad. |

87 points in 74 games as well. If I had to play a 7 game playoff series tmo I’m going to war with Barkov over Eichel and Matthews. |

I think Matthews vs Eichel will be debated for their entire careers. Marner is an elite RW but I take the Elite C every time. If we can find a Marner to play with Eichel then we’ll be getting somewhere. I think J.T’s defensive game is miles ahead of Eichel’s but Eichel has the better offensive game. Eichel’s production has fallen off from 1.15 PPG to 1.07 PPG these past few weeks but the whole team has cratered and at the end of the day have nothing to play for.
The problem with Buffalo is we have 1 elite player (Dahlin will make 2 eventually and surpass Eichel as best player on the team) and the Leafs have 4 counting Reilly. Andersen is miles better then Hutton/Ullmark. Although we have Reinhart and Skinner the Leafs surround their “Elite 3” with Kadri, Nylander (playing a lot better as of late), Kapanen, Johnsson.
Leafs have the better coaching staff and continuity with that coaching staff
Eichel takes a lot of poop but look at the cards he’s been dealt compared to Matthews. How different would each player look if they switched places ? - Pegullaville
I do think the idea that more depth on the Sabres would allow Eichel(and Skinner) to have a little more room on the ice has merit. The fact that it's close enough to be a legit argument remains depressing to me. |

I get the feeling the Sabres are serious about hiring the swedish coach.
I wonder if that helps if we pursue Karlsson?
Done with McCabe, scandy, risto and Nelson i see
I still think McCabe adds value/leadership to this team

I mean as terrible as the Leafs defense are at actually “defending” having Reilly, Gardiner, and now Dermott is huge for their offense as well. Unless Eichel goes end to end and enters the zone himself we don’t get anywhere. Dahlin has been great and will continue to improve and having Montour now is great. Let’s see how else Botts goes about upgrading the rest of the roster. |

and you left off Jake Muzzin with his 15 points in 25 games
playing at a 50 point per season clip since the trade, risto won't get near 50 points |
