Until our playoff hopes were a distant reality he was top 18 in PPG. Apart from P.Kane he was the only guy in there without any team mates also in the top 20. If Eichel didn’t have the worst puck luck in the world during our first 30 games with a shooting percentage of 4.97% or a lacklustre at best PP he very well could have been in the top 10 in the entire league. I really like Skinner and Reinhart, but MacKinnon has Rantenen, the Bruins top line has each other, Scheifele has Wheeler, McDavid has Draisatil, J.T. has Marner, Matthews has Kapanen/Nylander and a loaded Leafs PP this year, Gaudreau has Monahan and Lindholm whose two way presence has been a perfect fit on that line. Skinner-Eichel-Reinhart could be that line in the future but until we have the depth to support that it isn’t ideal. I also think it wouldn’t hurt to have another elite player to play with Jack.

I really think Skinner's defensive game is not as bad as a lot of the posters here make it out to be. Yeah, he floats at the point in his own zone - HE IS SUPPOSED TO.

I have seen him rush back numerous times this season when one of our idiot defensemen (BOGO, Risto, Scandella) shoots the puck into the other teams skates at the blue line and causes an odd-man rush.

Yeah he traditionally hasn't racked up the assists but he's actually been very consistent with about 25 assists a season - playing with better linemates and a #1 center in a coaching system that doesn't suck should inflate his assists past 30 for the next few years. If we pay 8 million for a 30/30 guy, I ain't mad.

I don't think it's a particularly hot take, really. Matthews might be the third best in that group, too. Trust me, it pains me to say it, and I truly dislike the Leafs.

I think Matthews vs Eichel will be debated for their entire careers. Marner is an elite RW but I take the Elite C every time. If we can find a Marner to play with Eichel then we’ll be getting somewhere. I think J.T’s defensive game is miles ahead of Eichel’s but Eichel has the better offensive game. Eichel’s production has fallen off from 1.15 PPG to 1.07 PPG these past few weeks but the whole team has cratered and at the end of the day have nothing to play for.

The problem with Buffalo is we have 1 elite player (Dahlin will make 2 eventually and surpass Eichel as best player on the team) and the Leafs have 4 counting Reilly. Andersen is miles better then Hutton/Ullmark. Although we have Reinhart and Skinner the Leafs surround their “Elite 3” with Kadri, Nylander (playing a lot better as of late), Kapanen, Johnsson.

Leafs have the better coaching staff and continuity with that coaching staff

Eichel takes a lot of poop but look at the cards he’s been dealt compared to Matthews. How different would each player look if they switched places ?
