What? What significant changes has Peters made this year? He's rolled more or less the same lines for most of the year. Sure, he's given Andersson a game or two on the top line when Brodie sucks, but that has just as much to do with Andersson earning that spot. What was Gulutzan going to do, give Kulak more ice time?

The bottom six didn't work last year, but no amount of tinkering was going to fix that. Ryan, Mangiapane, Czarnik are all options Gulutzan didn't have last year.

Is Peters a bad coach because he wasn't able to get the Hurricanes to the playoffs in four years and they're going to make it the first year after he leaves? No. It's the same thing with Gulutzan.

Every once in a while you make a positive, logical contribution. This isn't one of those! Outside of time in the league (which you corrected me way back when) they are night and day different. Is it coincidence that most of the players on this team are having career years?

GG lacked any system! No forecheck, no special teams and a constant reliance on players that failed to contribute night after night yet they still managed to get consistent ice time! He kept waiting for (certain players) to work their way out of whatever rut they were in regardless of the impact to the team. He failed to coach!

I actually thought the stick swinging was a positive (sorry pzoxic I whole-heartedly disagree). For the first time he showed emotion (at least publicly) and held the team accountable. But that was it. He failed to coach and thats the biggest difference between the two.

Peters coaches. You see it in the SYSTEMS he employs. Yes some personnel changes have helped but do you seriously think Czarnik, Mangiapane, et al would have thrived under Gully? Give your head a shake. Peters is no Scotty Bowman but he clear understands how to get the most out of the team he's got. He rewards the players that work and it shows in the career marks of most of this team and more importantly the playoffs!

I 100% agree that GG was bad.
GG didn’t hold players accountable. You could see it with his use of Brodie. Brodie cost the flames so many games last year and not once was pulled from the top line, or sat.
Peters does that to everyone. No player on the flames is beyond accountability.
GG also didn’t make lineup changes until the halfway point of the season. Chiasson was on the top line forever when everyone knew Ferland was a hell of a lot better as an option. Hamilton never got a sniff on the power play until after the halfway point when everyone and their dog knew Hamilton should have been there all along after the finish he had the previous season.
GG’s system also saw Hamonic reduced to crap.
Or maybe it’s weird how no one has any complaints about defensive usage this year other than where Brodie should play?

Who exactly is having a career year? Most of the guys having career years are under 25 and getting better every year because that's what players under 25 do. They were also thriving under Guluztan. You want to give Peters credit for Giordano? Fine, sure, great. Lindholm is the breakout player of the year, but he was also coached by Peters for the last 4 years as well. Did Peters have a sudden stroke of coaching genius to finally figure out Lindholm or did Lindholm just get introduced to Gaudreau?

Neal's definitely not having a career year, Brodie isn't, Backlund isn't, Frolik isn't, Hamonic isn't. Hanifin, Bennett, Jankowski, and Ryan are about the same. How is most of the team having a career year?
