Face offs are not nearly as significant as people make them out to be. |

Would you rather win or lose a faceoff when your on PK against the number 1 power play in the league? Especially in the playoffs. They matter, a lot. No coincidence Jay Beagle had one of the highest faceoff %'s in the playoffs last year AND the Caps won the Cup. |

You’re an idiot, the people who make these claims never have any supporting evidence. |

Yea dude. The caps obvi won the cup because of Jay Beagle...no you idiot. Im simply drawing a parallel for them having a successful cup run AND jay beagle dominating faceoffs as its relative to the discussion in this thread. Clearly there are multiple variables that contribute to success in hockey. I believe you said something about them being overvalued? Yea right buddy...see my initial point. Cmon man.. |

Also, that shows Jay Beagle #7 out of 100 players who took faceoffs in the playoffs. Id say thats pretty darn good. |

Most traction a CBJ thread gets all year is a Caps, Pens, and Wings fan yelling nonsense about Jay Beagle...lol |

Fan,
It's time to start the postmortem on the corpse. Even winning at Vancouver won't change anything, the CBJ are done.
It is impossible for me to understand why the offense has just disappeared, and it did before the trade deadline, but sunk into a black hole after it. Everything has blown up in the face of Jarmo, though I agree with the risks he took to win this year.
After trying to understand what happened the question needs to be asked; What happens now? The CBJ still has a young team with a lot of talent in Cleveland and Columbus. Though w/o draft picks the closet might get thin in a couple years, the team does have a ton of cap space.
My real fear is that the CBJ will now enter a period of 'not good or bad enough', not good enough to compete for a title or even anything but a wildcard, and not bad enough to get a massive talent upgrade the team will need.
The other fear is that CBJ will become more like Edmonton, where no top-flight free agents want to play because it's not in a tax haven like Florida, without the glitz/bright lights of IMO dumpy over-hyped places like NYC, Philly, Toronto, the West Coast, or Montreal. So the team never gets the superstar needed to get the team over the hump, and it permanently stays in mediocrity unless a miracle happens.
And one last point, once the season is over the head coach, GM and President will raked over the coals by everyone, especially the head coach. This massive failure is not their fault, it sits squarely on the players.
It is also a shame that our captain had whatever happen to him in the last week happen, he is a good captain IMO, and whatever took him away from the team is nobody's business. I hope and pray it is not a serious problem with his child. But it is obvious he is needed now, and is unavailable. |

I'm not privy to what goes on in the locker room, but IMO there is something negative festering under the surface. It may have been instigated since last summer by the Bob & Bread UFA situation; and then was magnified when neither player was moved at the TDL - and both might have expected to go !! So all they're doing now is playing out the string !! Panarin just looks to pass - not taking SOG ! Now Bob has an "upper body injury" he said has lingered for the past couple of weeks.
Another theory could be that when JK brought in Duchene, someone felt insulted because there's a new "alpha male" in the room. Rather than accepting the new additional skill & talent, they pouted, not playing with passion, energy, and playoff intensity. |

You may be quite right sir, and we will never really know if anything happened in the room. However, that is thin gruel for fans. These men are highly-paid professional athletes who are paid to win games, everyone had expectations this team could compete in the playoffs, or maybe contend for the Cup. Now we get to watch Ottawa use our 1st round draft choice and two of our best players will be playing against us next year with nothing to show for it other than failure.
There have been many teams that did not get along but still won championships. Not getting along is no excuse for not living up to your potential. |

Can't argue at all with your point. The Jackets should be able to put on their big-boy pants and come out on the ice with some "jump". Every shift/game is costly - and they need to play like that.
Could quote what Conner McD said earlier this year - parapharasing - if there are guys here who don't want to win, get out of the lockerroom !!
Maybe Foligno or Jones should stand up and say something similar. |

An important update I just saw:
Captain Nick Foligno was away from the team during the road trip because his two year old son had pneumonia so bad he was in ICU for days. Thank God the little one is okay and he will play tonight. Maybe that will be the kick in the rear the team needs. |
