If TK can be a 25 goal scorer with limited PP time he should be able to pot 30 easily if he can insert himself as a member of that top PP. One of the problems to start the season was all the extra passes, trying to be too cute with the puck and the crept back up last night. So many chances to get a good shot on net and the player with the puck elected to throw a low percentage pass instead. Some times it looks like they are just playing pickup hockey |

They need a lot of help to get in. Pretty much need to win the rest of their games and hope CAR wins less than 5 games, CBJ loses more than 4 games, Montreal loses more than 4 games |

Maybe they can go with 11F/7D and ease him in for the first few games.
Really, if it's over getting Morin into some games over the great Corban Knight, I would be willing to make that sacrifice.
Really, I'm done with the Knight and Varone experiments. - jmatchett383
they are who they are, Knight and Varone tells the story of the season, the Flyers are just not ready due to current available players. |

Not sure I want Morin fighting Matt Martin for his first game of the year. - jmatchett383
bingo, don't get into heavyweight fight first game back after such a long layoff. I would be ok with him planting Johnny B |

That's what I was getting at. You aren't going to know anymore about him if he plays than if he doesn't. Way too small of a sample size. Plus factoring in limited ice time (you would think) it's hard to get a good feel for him.
Again, the sooner the better. - Pelle31Forever
Agreed. But I think it's more about Morin and getting him on the ice for some games more than any sort of evaluation. He hasn't played in what, a year+ for a total of 19 games since start of 17/18 season? Get him out there with his teammates to play some real games and that should give him a little extra off-season motivation instead of the rehab/practice rut he's been stuck in.
At this point, I see no reason not to do it. |

Perhaps the boys can run a simulated game at practice so Morin can get a real feel of what game action in the NHL would be like. Maybe Comcast could even pony up some dollars to bring in another NHL team that is geographically close, lets say the Rags or Pens, and have them skate around with Morin to make sure he feels ok to dress for a game?
Flyers need to cross all their t's and dot all their i's with this one. Morin can't go out there and make a mistake or two. It could shatter the kid's confidence and ruin him as a player. Plus the ruthless fans would be all over him. Poor Morin wouldn't make it out of the building.
Perhaps he could use a bubble similar to the one Jake Gyllenhaal wore in the underrated comedy classic Bubble Boy.
Is there any other way we can see what we have with Morin without exposing him to some amount of risk?? |

I just don't see any reason to carry a dead cap hit 2 seasons from now when we could just take the ~$1M savings and bury him in the AHL next year.
And players will sign with 1) whoever pays them the most, 2) Who gives them the longest term, and/or 3) who gives them the best chance to be successful. I don't think playing a guy in the AHL in the last year of a 6-year contract will make players not want to play here. Even after the trades you listed, players still wanted to come back, including JvR himself. - jmatchett383
Good luck with this. I tried repeatedly to offer my opinion last nite.
Can't understand the difference between buying out a player when your team is cap strapped as opposed to keeping the guy around as insurance against injuries when the team has more cap room than it needs.

Maybe use one of these kid leashes to make sure he doesn't go too far from the bench in case something goes wrong?

Can't they give him that headset deal that simulates situations. He'll think he's actually playing.

Speaking of Martin did you see his bout with Chara? He but up a good effort and bounced up after hitting the ice once but in the end Chara rag dolled him a bit. |

I’m certainly not a pessimist by nature. I believed all season, even in January, that the Flyers had the ability to make the playoffs. I’m pleased at the push they have made. I’m sure they will have come much closer than most people thought was possible before it’s said and done.
This past week’s loses left no margin of error. Even with a ton of help from other teams losing, the game you can’t afford to lose is the the one facing the team directly above you in the standings. Last night was that game. It’s like shooting yourself in the foot in a race.
That said. I hope they win all the remaining games. Losing will not help build a winning team. So it’s the season we started 8 goalies and Gritty’s rookie year, but it is also the start to the Hart era. Somehow, I believe this is the start of something special.
Looking forward to see what Fletcher does in the offseason. Let’s go Flyers! |

I was so pissed with this team that i hardly watched in Nov and Dec. I have enjoyed the run and hope they win out. If nothing more than to screw some teams in front of them. Winning begets winning. We all knew the chances were slim at best. They went from dead last in Dec to getting within sniffing distance of the playoffs.
Here's hoping we see a couple more GOOD young players on the roster next year. I'm hoping Fletcher can pry a couple of guys away from college.
Speaking of young guys, Mattew Strome could be interesting on the Phantoms next year. Not sure where his skating is now, but how in the hell does he have two older brothers with NHL skating and he skates like that. Maybe a bit lazy? Didn't take his training seriously?
Perplexing to say the least. |

if you can trade him and retain, go ahead. short of that he is an acceptable 8th D and you can still bury him in the AHL |

so are Varone and Knight available to play in the AHL playoffs? If so, they should add a good bit to the LHV |
