Only one on that list I’d maybe concede is Barry Sanders. Other than that I think Tom Brady is the best football player ever. Hell he might be the greatest athlete across all of the major sports of all time.

I wouldn't even call TB the greatest contemporary out of this generation of athletes. I'd give that one to LeBron James pretty easily.

I don't think he's a better athlete than the majority of hockey and basketball players, and most NFL running backs. Most of them have much more athletic ability than him.
He's a fantastic passer, though.

I just think this particular one is pretty easy to pin on bad overall team discipline at the end of the game. If you're dying to scapegoat specific players, I think the Joltz pairing was a demonstrably bigger issue than Matt Murray or the third line last night.

I can never blame one person in a team game. Especially hockey when even the best players are on the bench more than they are on the ice. Of course the lone exception is the goalie, and he only gets beat when the five in front of him get beat first.

My point is Shultz and Johnson played the majority of the game with the third line. Yes they struggled most of the game, as a group, but they also had some of the best offensive chances.

Unless you're Sebastian Aho, apparently, who played just shy of 29 minutes last night

Those are the only two that should be in the discussion for this generation.

By Athlete... what the hell do you mean? If by winning as an athelete... okay I guess.

If by a more normal measure of athlete... his athleticism... I dont think he makes a top 100, probably top 250, list in the NFL.

LeBron is something else. If he had grown up playing hockey instead of basketball they would have made the switch to international size rinks already.

If our criteria is winning as an athlete, the case is pretty open and shut Bill Russell.

65 minutes of game time last night...so while 29 mins is a lot, he still spent more time on the bench than playing...

There was some study that I saw a few years back that basically said athleticism is a general trait, and if you have that gene, you can pretty much succeed at any sport and its just a question of which one you decide to specialize in. LeBron as a hockey power forward would have been insanely fun.

You were limiting to this generation... which I would actually put Tiger Woods over all in this generation.

Even in a 60 minute game it's still less than half.

I was just meaning that he played a lot, is all.

Oh sure I was, but Boyd wasn't. I just made the this generation point to illustrate why he doesn't belong on an all time list. Same reason why I make the "Kobe wasn't even the best in his generation" when people try to sneak Kobe into GOAT conversations because they're idiots who are mesmerized by inefficient volume scoring.

Swinging golf clubs at high velocity and at the frequency at which people who compete do due to training puts a massive amount of strain on your body and muscles. That's why Tiger's always injured. I would say that type of physical exertion qualifies it as a sport.

Okay... let's just hear what defines a sport in your world. So I can humor this argument if I stayed bored enough.
