What does that have to do with getting the most out of him as an asset next year. I think his best value to this team will be as an insurance policy in case of injuries. Why not keep him instead of having to find the next Folin or Manning when some one goes down. How does a buy out help the Flyers? His cap hit doesn't affect anything next year. What is he likely to bring back in a trade? A 4th rounder? He has more value here or in LHV than either of those scenarios.

But Umberger had no value. AMac is better than both Folin and Manning. They BOTH played a lot of minutes. If he goes to LHV, they get a bit over a million in cap relief.
It's just semantics. In my opinion he has more value playing the odd game here or playing regularly in LHV.
