yeah "bro"...a goal during the playoff race, "chief", IS more valuable that a goal scored in say, the third week of the season, "Champ"...

For 9m/yr that hes asking...

I think "what have you done for me lately" is a VERY valid question...

hey...if youre not bothered that, with the season in the balance, he decoded to disappear, that's a decision you can only make for yourself.

- RippedFuel

You didn't answer the question.

The question was, are Skinner's GWG worth less because they were scored earlier on in the year.

I'll hang up and listen. Just didn't want you to deflect this question as it was the same I was asking myself. Please, continue.

So wins only count the last 1/4 of the season? So you can lose every game but if you win the last 20 you are good? I don't know about that logic.

The Sabres were in a playoff spot....

The guy asking for the Brinks Truck to back up to his house, disappears for ~15 games...

The Sabres are no longer in the playoffs...

you wanna pay THAT GUY 9m??? You go right ahead....

Okposo scored big goals 5 years agol...lets give him a raise too...according to this thread...the goals Okposo scored 5 years ago are as valuable as Skinner ones in October right??? ALL GOALS COUNT THE SAME!!!!

Yup. A goal is a goal.

I looked up Ovie's scoring numbers this year. I'm trying to find his "Goals that Count" column, but can't seem to find it.

Are Okposos GWG 5 years ago less valuable than Skinners in October??

same answer....

YES...Skinners goals in October ARE WORTH FAR LESS than the ones he should have scored when we were free falling out of the playoffs...

YES...YES....YES......absolutely count me as believing that March/April goals are far more valuable than October/November goals...

Sounds good.

And those missing GWGs now, those also count for more than the games we won in October, yes?

Or do you see the issue here?

I just don't like how you dismiss his entire body of work. Like I said, he has 7 GWG, take the 14 points that he is directly responsible for away and we are not even in the playoff argument.

Yeah...check Ovies last 15 games against Skinners...

let me know how that turns out...

Ovies goals in the last 15 SURE AS HELL COUNTED MORE than Skinners in his last 15

I'm sick of the ROR "quit on his team" crap. I remember my first three tears on my job here in the late 80s. I LOVED it. I'm still here and now I effing hate it. I've lost my love for my job a long time ago, BUT I still try my ass off every day, just like Ryan O'Reilly did in his final year here. 24 goals last year ... his best goal output while here. He didn't quit - he played well and then said some words - some truth - people couldn't handle it, and then he was incorrectly run out of town.

Stupid, unnecessary trade. Everyone rags on Housley first, but it should be Botterill that gets canned first.

I see the issue...CRYSTAL CLEAR....the guy that wants 9m a year....VANISHED at the most critical part of the season..

THAT....is the issue.

So if my lane is this...if it costs more than 7m/yr....I say...let him walk

There...that's my lane...

- RippedFuel

What's the next step, if you let him walk? Overpay a UFA who isn't as good as Skinner? Our system isn't loaded with talent pushing to take that spot.

IMO, letting him walk is either followed by a bigger mistake or essentially re-setting the rebuild again.

Nope, you're simply wrong. I won't argue though, as I've said you are beyond repair.

I'm just going to start responding with facts periodically. Just in case anyone finds some validity in your inane babble.

Jeff Skinner has 37 goals. Which ties him for 8th in the entire league.

Hold on RF, I'll take this one.

He's invisible, he quit. He doesn't deserve 9M. Let him walk.

Does that answer your question?

You do realize that the player should NEVER be to blame for how much money he makes. He does not offer his own contract. If he signs for 9 million with the sabres next year all the blame is on JBotts. he is ultimately the guy who offers the contract. Skinner is who he is a 30-40 goal guy and 60-65 points a year. he will prob be nothing more. Now is that worth 9 Mil, IDK that is up from Botts to decide.

Yep.....if over 7, let him walk. And make a good hockey trade to replace him. Get the NEXT guy looking to be overpaid. Skinner at his current salary is a VERY good deal...at 9...terrible. Bots has made some good hockey trades....Skinner, Montour...Go get the NEXT Skinner at 5 million..rather than paying TWICE that to watch him vanish again in March

OK here is my lane....Skinner has scored one goal in 14 games when the season was in balance...when we needed him most he didn't produce . PERIOD!! Seeing that he has scored at times before...its probably not a talent issue....but ...if he "works harder than any player on the ice" (WHICH I NEVER SAID)….then whats the problem??

Here is my lane....I would NEVER EVER EVER pay Jeff Skinner a penny over 7m/yr. The team he WAS on..never made the playoffs...and as soon as he LEFT..they are. The team he is on NOW ...got ONE GOAL out of him in the most critical stretch of the season (14 games)

So whether its talent, effort, or an extended stretch of Diarreah…..when he was needed most...he DID NOT DELIVER AT ALL!!! NOT AT ALL...ONE GOAL!!!

So if my lane is this...if it costs more than 7m/yr....I say...let him walk

There...that's my lane...

NO.... come on so you're saying because ONE guy didn't keep scoring a a record pace he quit... that's the most unintelligent thing EVER on this site. just stop...
AND the sabres were not in the thick of the playoff race... that race ended a long time ago.

you want to have a lane that say 7 million or less... fine nobody can argue with that.
personaly Im hoping for 8.5 or less... but if it's over and he wants to be here and the sabres want him here, it can be whatever they sign him too, cause Im not paying him.

The ONE guy that gets paid for NOTHING except TO SCORE...he doesn't play defense, he doesn't hit....he doesn't kill penalties...Im not saying he SHOULD....and he hasn't ben asked to....the ONE guy..that gets paid a fortune JUST TO SCORE...and...who, ironically, is saying he WANTS EVEN MORE to just score...didn't score...

yep...I absolutely have a problem with a guy in that situation...(which , as described, is 100% accurate)

And? Pat Kane who is 3rd now also had a streak of 1 goal in 14 games this year. And also only 4 over 24. Goal scorers are streaky, even the best ones. Holy poop, how is this hard to comprehend?
