a $7.5M ryan o'reilly gets a pass for losing his love for the game but a soon to be $9M Skinner doesn't in your book?...personally, I never thought skinner "took 12 games off"...he was still buzzing, still creating opportunities but the puck just wasn't going in

You're free to root for anyone you want. But on my team..guys dont get paid to TRY. Now you sound like Phil. "I know we lost 5-0, but the guys tried"...yeah, no thanks.

9 million a year to TRY.....whoosh....

nope...when I mentioned that ror lost his love of the game your direct quote was:

"I cant blame the guy....this franchise has been in last place for 7 years..."

ror came out and said he quit on the team and you're giving the $7.5m quitter a pass while bagging on skinner who you think quit on the team

I'm sorry, I have ignored this rant for the last week and a half but I just can't anymore.

It's DUMB. It's either DUMB because it's just flat wrong, or I'm falling for the longest drawn out troll of the season so far, and for that reason its DUMB.

Jeff Skinner is one of the hardest working and dedicated guys on the ice for this club every single game. You're right, he isn't scoring over an unexpected long spell, but that has NOTHING to do with quitting. He hasn't been able to put the puck in the net, but don't confuse lack of scoring with lack of effort.

- Der Kaiser

Yeah, Skinner's a lot of things, but he's not a quitter.

And for quitting..OReilly was moved. Correctly. He quit, i dont blame him, he needed to go for quitting, hw was senr away....

I mever once said OReilly should have stayed. I said i domt blame him for quitting. But he had to go.

So of Skinner gets one goal im hia final 25 games...i domt have a problem if he goes as well.

Yeah, Skinner's a lot of things, but he's not a quitter.

So then TALENT is an issue. If hes working his hardest...the fact that Sobotka has outscored him thw last 14 games should be concerning.

If Jeff Skinner doesn't score again the rest of the season but continues to shoot the puck at the same rate he'll be a 37 goal scorer at a little above his career average shooting %.

That's... really good. The guy is inconsistent as hell but 30+ goals is 30+ goals.

we're talking perception, most notably yours...having an admitted quitter get moved most definitely is the correct move, even if someone rationalizes it by saying he was on a crappy team...

I can't think of any other sabres fan who said that skinner quit on the team...he may have gone through a scoring slump for whatever reason(s) but he did not quit on the team like ror

But 30 goals is 7/m. Not 9. Im all fpr Skinner at 7 x 8

Last 15 games for Jeff Skinner

1 goal, 6 points, -9, 49 shots

Sobotka

2 goals, 2 points, -3, 11 shots.

I'd say one guy is snake bit, and the other just blows.

skinner could be the first sabre to score 40 goals in the last 10 years...Sobotka has 52 goals in a 528-game NHL career

$7 million isn't what it was 5 years ago in this league, but $7 million does seem fair. Anything more and you're running the risk of having a guy who could underperform his contract.

He's only 27, but that's the tail end of his prime.

HE HAS 37 GOALS!!!!! Most of anyone on the team and tied for 8th in the league. You are only counting his last 14 games, what about the other 58 game? I get you want him for 7 mil, me too, but this is Free agency, that is not going to happen.

Ok...so if he hasnt quit, which is clear he has....but let's say he hasnt...one goal in 14 is the best he can do? Those are Okposo numbers. I still wouldn't pay him over 7 a year. Not one nickel

OK here is my lane....Skinner has scored one goal in 14 games when the season was in balance...when we needed him most he didn't produce. PERIOD!! Seeing that he has scored at times before...its probably not a talent issue....but ...if he "works harder than any player on the ice" (WHICH I NEVER SAID)….then whats the problem??

Here is my lane....I would NEVER EVER EVER pay Jeff Skinner a penny over 7m/yr. The team he WAS on..never made the playoffs...and as soon as he LEFT..they are. The team he is on NOW ...got ONE GOAL out of him in the most critical stretch of the season (14 games)

So whether its talent, effort, or an extended stretch of Diarreah…..when he was needed most...he DID NOT DELIVER AT ALL!!! NOT AT ALL...ONE GOAL!!!

So if my lane is this...if it costs more than 7m/yr....I say...let him walk

There...that's my lane...

Nah, just that it will be eventually, right? And the longer the term of the contract, the more likely you'll find that point.

Personally I'd look to give him more up front on a shorter term (Like 8.5 per for 4 years) rather than $7 million for 8. More cost today, but less risk, and you can probably still move him at the end of that deal if he starts to slip around age 31.
