Letang taking regular rushes. They’re keeping the Bjugstad unit together. Blueger centering Rust and Phil.

Yeah, he never really lived up to being the guy Rutherford thought he was getting, but he's still a damn good player.

He seems pretty excited to get the chance to FINALLY get into the playoffs. He's had a pretty rough go of it since he arrived, what with the broken leg, the concussion, his daughter being stillborn, going through a rebuild and the team being sold.

- BINGO!

I think the expectations were a little too high. IMO he’s one of the best defensive forwards in the game. I think people expected him to be Kopitar, but it’s such a hard thing to know when a player has only played the third line.

He can still eat up 18 minutes per night against the other teams' best players and come out on top.

You know what you're getting every night.

I agree here. He remains one of my favorite non-Pens players. Just such a special skill set.

You look back at the Jordan Staal trade and it was a pretty great one. Regardless of how all the pieces panned out, getting a 1st round pick, top defense prospect and a "3rd line center."

Better players have been moved for less.

The timing of it was terrible

We were right in our cup window and all we got to put on the ice for the next 3 seasons was Sutter instead of Staal

Dumo was in the minors and the 1st (Pouliot) didn't pan out

Shero should have traded the #8 Overall for a young NHL ready now player, so the team got substantially worse for the next few seasons because of Staal

It was a selfish move by Staal and Karma got him. Played for a perennial loser most of his career, Eric got shipped out a few seasons later and Marc never lived up to his end of the bargain to move there too and the 4th brother Jared never made it

Imagine someone being this salty because a guy put in for a transfer because he wanted to work in the same office as his brother.

Hahah

Anyway, enough about Staal. He didn’t want to win cups with his “brothers” Sid, Geno, Kris and Marc-Andre.

His skate caught a rut in the ice and he broke his leg.

He missed several months with a concussion.

His daughter was stillborn.

His brother was traded.

The team was sold and went through a rebuild.

But yeah, that's karma or whatever.

hahaha

IMO Pens got a great return for him, especially when you consider everyone in the world knew he was going to sign with the Canes anyway. Would of been better if Pouliot panned out or they drafted someone more effective, but even still, Dumoulin is great and then Sutter turned into Bonino.

I have zero ill feelings towards Jordan Staal and still wish he was a Pen.

They did well with the hand that Staal dealt them - Sutter was a disappointment, and Pouliot was a bust. Dumo panned out but he was clearly the 3rd piece in that deal

I wouldn't change anything, because I don't think we guarantee ourselves 2 more cups with Staal staying. But by choosing to leave (or letting his intentions known) he set the franchise back in the short term. That short term just happened to be right in the Sid/Geno Prime Cup window

He put himself in front of his team, (family over winning) and he got neither

Sounds like Karma to me
