I thought I heard that Nashville wanted to sign him this year. - VANTEL
I'm sure they do, but does he want to sign if he doesn't think there is a spot for him?
They could move any if their top4 D and get a great return and make room for him, if he's that good.

Miller and Clarkson for Tanev? - VANTEL
Works for me, is Clarkson's contract that big of a deal if hes on IR? |

He has one year left at 5.25. He will go on IR but it does go on the cap to start the year . They are at 82 mil next year with 17 players signed. Karlsson is one of the players that needs a new contract. |

And if you bring everyone back they will still have only 3 top 6 forwards . - VANTEL
And if you get rid of everyone of those players you listed, they will still only have 3.
The problem isn't having those guys, the problem is not having anyone better to push them out of the top 6, and subsequently out of the bottom 6.
So unless there are legit top 6 guys coming in (none in the pipeline), or players better than those you've listed (UFAs aren't worth it), or high-quality trades worth flipping some for (they don't hold much value on the market), it doesn't make much sense making "tough choices" to get rid of players that can potentially grow.
I agree with trying to pry some guys out of cap-strapped teams though, and would like to see what it would cost to get Kap out of TO |

One thing this team has is bottom 6 depth. - belcherbd
Is bottom 6 depth even a thing? |

- Marwood
I wasn't suggesting to go after him , I was pointing out they are screwed more so with him still unsigned. I am not suggesting to sign any big names . YET |

No bringing back the same roster is the second biggest mistake this team can make.
It is up to the GM to find ways to replace 9 bottom 6 forwards.

You make some valid points, but.....IMO, you can’t just select 9 players and replace them and expect any type of cohesive unity. Not only that, but they also need 4 defense men, I’ll pencil in Hughes as one. So 12 new players on a 23 man roster is huge.
My issue is the way in which players are utilized, lack of preparedness, lack of strategies, questionable defensive system.
Not all of these players are as bad as they seem to be, they need better direction, which is evident when they end up on other teams and seem to shine. |

One piece at a time...
We are still years away from being a contender but steady building through the draft will give us a foundation. |

I agree very strongly with the highlighted part. I know you can't come back with 9 new players but you need to do some serious cutting.
Roussel is a 3rd or 4 th liner on a good team . We have him out playing top line . We have done that for years with Hansen Sutter and others.

The we have to change out all these players mindset is fairly obvious. What is also very obvious is we have zero currency that we are willing to part with that will bring in said improved talent. You can't make a very good chicken salad with chicken poop . No one will give us value for our garbage. And we won't move any of the young core or draft picks. Free agency never solves a franchises problems so here we are. We've got a short stack in a big poker game...all we can do is nibble around the edge until another stud or two lands in our lap via the draft . Get used to it fellas we are handcuffed to the long game , wether we like it or not. |

I agree, he still has some trade value but otherwise looks like an easily replaceable player. - belcherbd
I'd keep Granlund before virtanen. Need his penalty killing and hockey sense. Spooner can go too.
Leivo, Roussel, Granlund, are all keepers. |

Here's a crazy idea. When Woo's season is over I wonder if they reward him and bring him here now that Tanevs down. |

This.
Hughes, OJ, ZacMac, Lockwood.
If 2 make the Canucks.
That’s a win.
Drop a forward and a D.
Repeat.
The team will not be better necessarily in pts, but will slowly improve its players.
Patience. |
