Actually, you were 1-3. Pitt vs Bos didn’t go in OT/SO. Boston did not get a point as you wrongly predicted they would. |

The league is arbitrary in it's enforcement...why are these two incidents worthy of 2 games and Chara's hit to Evander Kane's head or Sam Bennett's hit to Radim Simek's head not? |

|
Simple
if you're a Sabres or Flyers fan no they're not fair,
everyone else... Fair. |

Eichel is a bit more egregious, but two is fair for both.
Jake wouldn't have gotten anything but a minor if he just got low and posted up instead of lunging upwards into Boychuk. |

Both suspensions were fair. - Jack Straw
So you think Voracek was more deserving of 2 games Than Malkin was? He got 1 game for intentionally swing his stick at a guys head. Voracek hit a guy looking to level him. Hell Simmonds got no suspension for a hit that looked like it got Pittsburgh Dman a bit in the chin |
|

I don't have a problem with the Eichel suspension - I think he intended to hit Soderberg, and intentinoally or not, the point of contact was the head. This is the kind of play that the League is trying to eliminate.
My sense of the unfairness here is that Eichel's hit was almost certainly in response to a pretty late, and very high, hit he took earlier in the game from Zadarov - after the whistle, Zads hit him (with his left arm) in the neck/head, and ripped his helmet off for good measure. He got 2:00 for roughing.

If the league is trying to eliminate those hits, they have to at least look at Zadarov for that hit. - Der Kaiser
This. I do wish Eichel's hit was not to the head. On a side note, if someone is "finishing their check" and going too fast that they can't stop then they are charging. The league should be looking at these as well.

Trying to compare suspensions on plays like this is a fool's errand. All you can do is look at each play in a bubble because the league is incredibly inconsistent on what they factor into the length of a suspension. |

Anyone who doesn't think Voracek's suspension is right is a homer. When Forsberg did that move, he had the puck. This video points it out clearly, the puck was at the goal line, no where near the players, and it's a headshot. 2 game suspension is the going rate for a headshot. Open and shut case. |

you're out of your mind - jimbro83
Boychuk is 6'-2". If you've ever played a second of hockey in your life you know that throwing or preparing to take a hit you lower your center of gravity a bit and explode with your legs. If Jake had gone real low and Boychuk had gone over top of him into the boards, that, in my mind, would have been a dirty play. He did what any other player seeing the hit coming would have done. |

You basically just made the point that it was an interference call and nothing else.
Yep, Forsberg did it with the puck. Does it matter if he had the puck or not? Yes. If he had the puck, it would be a good play. If he didn't have the puck, it would be an interference call. HARDLY SUSPENSION WORTHY.
Listen, Boychuk's face hit Voracek's nameplate. Voracek never left his feet and seen the hit coming. Braced himself and chances are Boychuk never expected to hit an immovable object.
You pretty much have to give benefit of the doubt to the player who has 800 NHL games under his belt with no suspensions or fines.....ever. |

but muh triggers!
Voracek got one game for hitting Boychuk in the head because he wasn't ejected and one for causing an injury. That's how the league slapped that two game number together. Pretty simple.
Whether or not people agree with it is another story, but that's how they came up with two games. Had he been tossed that night he probably would've gotten a single game for injuring Boychuk (who isn't playing tonight) and the game misconduct would've satisfied the league for the other "game" |

I think everyone besides Penguins fans think what Malkin did deserved 5 games minimum. |

Hate to admit it, but this guy is right. The league is totally reactionary. It is so political, that it tries to avoid suspensions for certain players, using technicalities like golden parachutes to hold or not uphold suspensions. So in Malkin's case, because he is a Penguin, and has 3 cups, he can swing his stick at a player's head and only get 1 game. Why? Because he missed the target (Raffl's head). But if a player "accidentally" connects with a check to the head, and that player gets injured, he is automatically GUILTY? I guess the league is not looking at intent anymore? Sad. I guess it depends on who the offending player is.
Voracek has his flaws, but one of them is not being dirty. He was simply trying to avoid getting injured himself. |

Think the biggest issue with your model is it appears Pennsylvania teams aren't going to lose in regulation, which just isn't reasonable. |

I think Voraceks is fair, while Malkins was awful. Just because they (frank)ed up Malkins suspension doesn't mean they didn't get Jakes right. My problem is with the wild inconsistency, not with the actual suspension itself. |

I've played many seconds of hockey. Can't hit a guy in the head anymore, and the league will be better off for it long term. |

Lol what? Puck was right there. Voracek didnt have possession yet but Boychuk was looking to steam roll him the second he touched it |

Every time "Peter" did that and the principle point of contact was the head he would and should be suspended in the 2019 NHL. I understand objectivity goes out the window when your favourite team gets dinged, but come on. Head hit = suspension, as it should. - Deeps27
Did you watch the hit? It wasnt a headshot. It was shoulder to shoulder. The injury was to boychuks shoulder. He was holding it the entire time |

I can't agree with this.
It was clearly interference so that sort of negates the puck was right there statement.
2 game suspension is ridiculous though just like multiple other worse plays getting nothing this season is ridiculous but hey..Modern NHL and all that. |

and that is the point. the league is wildly inconsistent with the rulings. Mantha slams Grioux's face into the boards and gets nothing. Malkin swings at a players head and gets one, I believe it was a wild player who had his face slammed into the bench/boards and nothing, Gudas (who is a repeat offender) slams his stick on a players head and gets 2 games. |

Agreed!
OLD NHL=Tough, hard nosed, hateful, inspired, self policed, non political, nasty rivalries, fair officiating, give up your day to watch.
NEW NHL=Soft, Ice Capades, meh, love fest, uninspired, league gestapos, instigator penalties, overly political, no nasty rivalries, inconsistent officiating, who gives a rats a$$ anymore.
Sad, but this how many of us long time fans of this wonderful game feel. My buddies and beer league teammates feel the same. It sucks!!👎🏻 |
