Just remember last years draft--it was nowhere near what anyone predicted.
- RaleighHawk

True. The top-3 pretty much all year long were Dahlen, Svechnikov and Zadina. Dahlen was the consensus #1 and 2/3 were a toss up of the other two. Zadina fell a few spots but the "out of left field" pick was Hayton at #4 by AZ. That moved the other players down a spot which was fortunate for the rest of the top-10 teams.

I would be pleasantly surprised if Turcotte was still available when the Hawks draft. I would put him as the next guy to draft after Hughes/Kakko.
- EbonyRaptor

I won"t say that Turcotte is a bad pick although his draft slot rating has dropped. There are better players ahead of him on draftsite.com. That said, obviously you are attracted to his bloiod line - his father played NHL. Turcotte likely there when we pick as ratings stand now. The top five or six are teportedly the top tier difference makers this draft. Some team, however, will possibly snag the top dman as late as #6-8 and be rewarded in a few years. The swede particularly sounds atractive as he apoears to have a physical edge though not a big meanie. The second rated dman is more of a gamble since his great skill speed of game has only been at a lower level. Do you scream if Bowman says, the best player available with our pick is a dman?

There are various draft sites and as far as I can tell there is no consensus after the first two picks. Some have Turcotte at #4, others down around #10 and others in between. I'm not really attracted to Turcotte because of his father - I prefer Turcotte based on most reports I've read that compare his all around 200' game to Toews with an offensive potential to be a 70-point scorer.

If the season ends today, Hawks without taking in account the lotto ball drop would be slotted in at pick #8...Who's your horse?

Going that far back is irrelevant. Heck, even going as far back as the mid aughts is kinda pointless.

Its a whole different world these days. There are so many different factors at play now. The explosion of US players and the USNDP. Teams invest a lot more money in European scouting. The proliferation of video usages. Those have all changed the landscape.

They are still drafting 18 year old kids. The whole draft is a crapshoot. i trust Kelley.
