How about we all just calm down here.

1. Anybody with a pulse on the Leafs knew about Johnsson before he came to NA because he looked like a 7th rounder that might pan out, which hadn't happened.... ever for the Leafs. People were tracking him in Frolunda.

2. Johnsson is a good but unproven player who works hard and is on pace for 20 goals and 40 something points this year. He's not Matt Frattin. He's not Wayne Gretzky. He's I dunno, Michael Frolik.

3. Nylander is a very skilled young player with a high ceiling. He's not elite though. Elite players score (I'm just gonna throw out an arbitrary number here) 60 during an off-year. He's topped out at 61. Could he be elite in the future? Sure. Does he make the team better? I think so. But to say he's on the level of Nicklas Backstrom is a bit over the top.

Kappy is not better than Johnsson. They are two really different type of players. Johnsson is a first line player skilled player who thinks the game well and is a good shot. Kappy is not. Kappy is a fast, gritty player that does not shoot as well as Johnsson or think the game well, but I believe is a "Clutch player". The Leaf brass know exactly what they have in both players. I believe both will be signed. They will both be signed with contracts that start with a 2. It wont be any of the nonsense of 4X5.
