This team always sucks when they drink their own koolaid. Way too cocky coming into this one with almost no effort.

Honestly a fully healthy pens and I dont even dress the man. He provides absolutely zero. All I hear about the guy is that he is an analytical darling with incredible hands...but does NOTHING EVER.

This was the type of game where they really miss Letang. They departed from the style of play from the other night which is how they need to play in general, but especially with Letang out of the lineup.

The Pens passed up too many opportunities, too much dump-and-chase and just couldn't really generate enough sustained pressure. The Canes are going to take over the 3rd spot again which is where I fully expect them to finish, but at least the Pens have a lead over CBJ.

Barring a real losing streak from either the Pens, Canes or Jackets this feels like playoff spots, and I don't even mean position, will come down to the final game of the season.

Simon not having a strong game isn't even close to the reason why the Pens lost this game. If anyone things that Bleuger being on the first line over Simon changes the outcome of this team they're grossly mistaken.

lol. 24 points in 56 games isn’t analytics dummy.

That Kessel flub on the PP that led to the short handy against was killer. Who knows how the game would of went if that didn't happen...and so much for being out of his own head haha.. He's definitely back in Doubtville now.

Jackets had to win that last night and they had to beat the Pens sometime.

I thought Kessel, Bjugs and McCann all had sloppy games and Simon was out of sink with Sid and Jakey. Despite all this the Pens had quite a few open looks that could of been good chances like McCann from Sid and also some quality chances they didn't convert on such as Jakey beating Bob over shoulder but ringing it off crossbar. They could of won that despite the pummeling they took in the 1st period.

Moving on.

That's terrible production. 24 points in 56 games does NOT scream first line winger riding shotgun with the world's best player.

Listen man, Simon is the new Sheary. His production will be ignored because some people don’t like the aesthetic of a small, non physical wing who isn’t Marty St Louis. These people can’t be convinced otherwise.

Well... He hasn't been on that line alot of those 56 games... And that's almost 0.5 ppg... Which is pretty good.

I like Simon, never thought he should of been scratched those times, but last night he wasn't working out good on that top line. Didn't look in sync or up to speed with Sid and Jake...so thats a very recent experience for people to hate on haha... Some of us look at the bigger picture/larger sample, some of us don't.

You’re giving these people a lot of credit by chocking it up to recency bias. These guys have been dumping on Simon all year, and dumped on Sheary before that, and it just comes down to the assumption that small, non-physical players have no use in hockey. No one should confuse Simon for a top line talent, but 1.8 even strength points per 60 is solid top 6 production and like you said he hasn’t played with Crosby for a lot of the season. The guy has been productive wherever he’s been put in the lineup and we’re lucky to have him, especially on his current contract.

The funny part is, he's only played with Sid and Jake for 196 total minutes throughout the season. Sid and Jake have played 700 minutes without Simon. Dude acts like they played all season together.

All of this. He just looked a step behind and was watching a bit.

That being said, I’m not a fan of Sully messing with what is clearly working to get another line going.

At the end of the day, you don’t maintain a 1.8 5v5 pts/60 pretty much all season because you stumbled ass backwards into a couple points during your couple weeks tenure on the top line.
