Interesting factoid: With the fantastic season Kane has been having, I almost missed the fact that Jonathan Toews is on track to having his career best regular season, at least point wise.

I read that Kane (or Kane's trainer) significantly changed his offseason program; got him lighter and more flexible. But I haven't heard what changes, if any, that Toews made. Does anyone know? It could be that his body and brain finally recovered from the grind and concussions but I'm curious to know if there is anything else to credit for his bounce back year.

Starting with the premise that the Hawks will not be a legitimate Cup contender next season and that they could have about $13M in cap space after supplementing the players under contract next season with low cost players. The tricky part is that there must be enough cap space the following year to re-sign RFA's Cat, Strome and others.

The ideal situation would be to acquire a young player by using the 2019/20 cap space to help a team in cap hell. One such situation is one I've proposed before by taking the last season of Horton's $5.3M contract off Toronto's books in exchange for Kapanen (with other trade details TBD). Another possibility would be to take the last year of Callahan's $5.8M contract off T.B.'s books for Anthony Cirelli or Taylor Raddysh.

Both of those proposals allow the Hawks to acquire a player that can be part of the retooled core group but doesn't hamstring Stan in re-sign the RFA's in 2020/21.

Not that it is surprising, but Bowman has some quotes in The last article from Custance in the Athletic. They have been in eval mode since before the TDL, and they are well aware of the DCat and Strome contract needs.

Listening to the interview Spittin' Chiclets did with him... he'd be a GREAT assistant coach for the Blackhawks. Obviously Toews respects him and he'd be a great coach to develop a young roster and a young head coach.

What about giving an offsheet to edmunsons from st.louis? Say 5 million for 5years i believe it would cost only a 2nd round pick. If anything puts st lous up against the cap worth a shot.

He has a thriving business and gamewide respect. He doesn't need it.

Stan knows when the contracts of Cat and Strome are up? He's really on top of things, eh?

Is he a Top 3 defenseman on a very good team? If not, pass; Hawks have slots 4-7 covered.

Last summer that would have cost a 1st and a 3rd - should be the same this coming summer.

Edmunson plays top pair on St Louis next to Pietrangelo. They are a very good team.

Would he sign a 5x5 offer sheet? That's the type of guy to go for, imo. Especially if it also jacks up the Blues.

Idk but would love to (frank) over STL!

Kampf and Kunitz pretty 2v1. Sikura/Hayden both go from healthy scratches to top line?? Hawks Slot once again wide open. 1-1.smh

Honestly, that 19 and 20 would be better off playing with Kunitz than either of those two guys; too many mistakes

Sikura needs an I-Pass and a room at the Clock Tower. No business being in the NHL.
