It's crazy because this by far the most high-powered team the Leafs have had in like fifty years. The Dougie/Wendel teams and Sundin teams were reasonable contenders but they weren't right at the top of the wins column or Vegas favourites or anything. I think Leafs fans are too PTSD to believe it, and that's understandable.
- Zezel

I agree with all of this except the understandable part lol

I love how someone can say "Mike Babcock doesn't like grit" while completely ignoring what he was like as a player.

Or the fact that his favorite players seem to be slightly gritty, hard working players, like Hyman, Kadri, and Brown. They aren't much for getting scrappy, but those guys do the dirty work (Brown to a lesser extent who seems pretty useless offensively thes days), and will take a hit to make a play. I'd rate them as "gritty", personally.

He might not like enforcers, or players that are gritty, but can't play well, but it's not like he shows a preference for perimeter players or those that won't do what it takes to make a play... It depends a bit on how you define grit.

Oh yeah, don't forget his old favorite, Komarov.

That's how the Canucks lost in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals at home 4-0 in one of the most pathetic displays of lackluster will, fortitude and integrity ever witnessed by the modern day sports fan.

Right?

Babs hinted multiple times that toughness and a RHD was needed but in the end it wasn't provided. Any coach would be a little pissed for a bit. Its not just a Babs thing. But in all honesty its good Dubas didn't blow his load and go overboard. This team is still young and is still in a learning curve. Give them one more playoff atmosphere and see what they can do. If they do great then sweet. If they get crushed and look like they can't handle it. You address the probs in the off season and move forward.

I remember years ago Down goes brown (used to write comedy articles mostly about the Leafs, works for some other site now I think) had this one entry about Kaberle playing at an all star game.

Imagine Kaberle doing the shooting competition, skating in circles over and over while he searches desperately for someone, anyone, to pass to.

The Athletic is awesome.

The in depth analysis is great. And they love advanced stats and the models the make but they aren’t afraid to admit the numbers lie sometimes.

I suppose it's not expensive if you go annually. I think it said it's $3.75/mo if you sign up for annual payments? 25% off right now... Tempting.

You guys obviously think it's worth it, huh? Maybe I'll sign up after I do some binge watching of Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Split it with a friend if you can find someone.

Or get a son/daughter/friend/cousin/2nd cousin who’s in school to get you the student discount.

They also offer 40-50% off every now and then. I bet they will offer it again getting close to playoff time.

But yes, for the price of a couple large pizzas at dominoes on a Saturday night why not? It’s not just the in depth. It’s the amount of articles they release. Lots of content to read when you are bored.

And the post game articles are great. Each player gets a rating out of 5 and a whole paragraph and notes about their game. Usually an hour after the game too.

At least the Sens have proven something. They've proven how a team can (frank) up in the most spectacular ways. Enjoy your #1 overall pick, you've earned it!
