yes I know, thats why I said "ready", since it will be a few weeks into the Season before they can waste that service time
which would be around the time the 1st round series are ending - senstroll
It will be more like mid season, at the earliest. |

I may be wrong, but they can (and likely will) call him up after May 7th, right? |

He will be called up this year, but not as soon as they are technically able to. It has to do with $. |

I have heard some mention that it might be around april 17, according to this he needs to stay down for 15 days min from the start of the season.
so I assume the Jays would pretend a little bit longer so as not to be completely obvious ..even though it is.
Acuna was april 25, so maybe they wait longer who knows
Guerrero is unlikely to make the team out of Spring Training. The Blue Jays have plenty of motivation to exploit the rules for their benefit. The MLB regular season consists of 187 days. Under the collective bargaining agreement, a player accrues a year of service time if they’re in the Major Leagues for 172 days. A player needs six years of service time to be eligible for free agency. If the Blue Jays keep Guerrero in the minor leagues for just 15 days, he remains under team control for an extra year. |

Makes sense, I thought it was a little later than April 17th.
Stupid system.

It has to do with money.
The players see this as dirty, even if they though its legal. When it comes time to renegotiate salary their ask becomes much higher for it. Or, should the contract ever go to arbitration, he will be awarded a lot more.
If they wait until mid season then much of this goes away. For a guy like Vlad Jr this could mean 10s of millions over the course of his career. |

well yes, ultimately its the $$ they lose since they have to wait 1 extra year for free agency.
but you can use a player like Mike trout as an example, he will be a free agent at 28 and have made 140 mil to that point, then sign another big deal.
players in Vlads catagory make big money anyways |

Yeah I could see that happening. But then it leads to more intense frustration.
I know that when the Canucks finally beat the hawks the 3rd time around it was a huge release of emotion. If you lose to the Broons 3 times and beat them the 4th it'll be awesome. - kaptaan

You can still get hickory sticks, but they're not so common anymore.
There's a reason for that. - TrashPanda
Because they're out of stock because people have already purchased them for being amazing? |

Campoli with one of the worst turnovers ever, then he gets his stick in front of it and redirects it past his goalie. Such a bad hockey player. |

if this is the case... then Babcock truly is more stubborn than any human I've met
after saying the 4th line didn't work (without the Goat)...
the change being made is taking the best player on the the line, the best of the small guys Moore and not using him..
f____g brilliant.
somehow the Goat is to blame for the 4th line being useless in Vancouver |

Hyman Tavares Marner (at the top - cause Austin this is the 1st line)

Marleau/Johnsson Kadri Kapanen
Marleau/Johnsson Goat Ennis
this is vastly better |

hockey players should keep these on the bench, so they can through a pile in their mouth to carve up their gums and get the extra two minutes on a high sticking penalty for drawing blood |

Yeah I know I'm in the minority on this, I just like the regional rivalry aspect of divisions. - Zezel
I don't think you're necessarily in the minority, for what it's worth. We all like regional rivalries. In the 1980s, I believe, the playoffs worked that way - so you'd play within your division and then come out of your division. The difference between then and now are the wildcard teams. And the Leafs were curb stomped numerous times because the Norris was so weak, they'd make the playoffs. One year, I think they only won like 20 or 25 games (alright, I cheated - in 1982 they were 28-40-12 and were THIRD in their division).
I honestly think regional rivalries will exist anyway due to proximity. Philadelphia / Pittsburgh; Islanders / Rangers; Montreal / Quebec; Edmonton / Calgary, and so on.
But to reinforce your point - I think the last time the Leafs played the Habs in the playoffs may have been the late 70s. The "rivalry" is more of a charade than a rivalry at this point. A playoff series would go a long way towards reviving that. |

That's a major reason I want them to keep it, so that a Leafs vs Habs series is more likely. It's crazy it hasn't happened for so long. |
