I like Marleau, and I am sure he is great for Mitch and others.. but I can easily say his 6mil cap is a problem and I wish it went away for next season.

I am an "others". Marleau has played well in 2 of the last 3 games, I believe. The problem I have is that more often than not he's not engaged. He rarely goes against the wall with any intention anymore. He doesn't win puck battles or even really battle for pucks. His forecheck is lackadaisical. He does get himself in decent position, but mostly it's the work of others that set him up (again: the last few games, he's been better than average in these areas as well).

If I ignore recency bias, I know he's old, and probably tiring, and I know the intangibles are there, and the kids love having a legend on the team, and on and on on . . .but if you're going to pay a guy $6m and have problems signing your future stars because of it, he'd better be worth it. And he's not even close in my opinion.

I was also thinking of those Isles fans. I get that they're sad he left, but seriously, just so classless. But they say they're "over it and over him".

I fully believe that if Matthews leaves us after his next contract simply so he can go play somewhere else like AZ (assuming they still have a team), he'd receive a standing ovation when he came back to Toronto even if we were pissed that he left.
You show respect for all they did when they wore your jersey, and the fact that they chose to leave doesn't wash away all the good times they helped create.

Funny story from pregame last night.....
8 yr old son and I standing by glass ( decked out in Leafs gear) in front of Canucks players
For some reason(beer?) i start giving that weasel Roussel the stink eye
30 seconds later, we are in a full blown stare down and he starts talking and blowing me kisses
Grab my phone to record and he stops
2 minutes later..... Roussel starts tossing pucks over the glass to young kids and my son gets one 😁
