Can you point out any specific plays he played poorly tonight? Or are you just basing your opinion on how often you hear Simpson say his name? - BetterCallSaul
His OT coverage was very bad.
But again, I agree with the premise. He really wasn't that bad. Being almost invisible and playing bad are two very different things.
Matthews was almost invisible, but by no means playing poorly. |

Plenty of plays, does flybys on the man with the puck, he’s not hustling to areas he should be in. In the OT he was terrible, really lazy, disengaged. |

he's been a beast lately. he's had a couple quiet games. no biggie to me.
anyone notice pettersson tonight? this happens. - daeth
Yeah. He had that "great pass" that was 2 feet in the air and nowhere near the guy he tried passing to. But Hughson was right. "Great pass"!
Also, he fell a few times for no reason whatsoever. Just like Anus does. |

True but Dubas kept Marincin around, so I still blame him.
I’m just pissed watching Matthews float around, he should be dominant or noticeable every game but he’s not. - LeafMan
I brought the same thing up earlier before getting lambusted for obvious reasons. Living in the GTA myself I watch even more Leaf games then I do Sabres games. I think Matthews is without a question going to be the best goal scorer in the NHL post Ovi. I have the same issues with him though disappearing through stretches during games, and over the course of a few game stretch. When he’s hot though, not many better in the league. |

I agree with that. Ps. I'm not a blind homer. And I actually thought the leafs would lose in 5 last year. Especially when Kadri got suspended. I think there's more in this team to give...and maybe they are taking it easy till Showtime. |

With all due respect Lou, this isn't on Dubas - it's on Babs. Babcock had him for a year and a half and didn't play him. Dubas has nothing to do with that. - lumlums
Yes. What's Dubas going to do if Babs refuses to play him? Tell him how to coach? Fire him? Seems a little extreme for a player of Leivo's calibre. |

Did they lose the game because of a play that was directly related to a lost faceoff? |

Wtf does this mean!!! Lol!? - Cherry--Skoal
it means not noticing Matthews much isn't good when he should be dominant.
But he was still better than a guy like Brown or Marincin who are noticeably bad.
It's pretty clear actually.
Not playing well ≠ Playing really bad |

I stand by my "faceoffs mean nothing" opinion. OT Face-offs mean a little more, but if you win the other battles then it's a moot point.
What next, "toughness" stops folks from cheapshots? Like how Chris Simon chose not to slash Ryan Hollweg in the face because Colton Orr was on the ice...? |

They need to get a little more rough.
Not go out and fight everything
But they need to get in someones face out there when they step out of line.
It's going to shine when playoffs start.
I'm not saying go out and sign mcgrattan.
But Boston is heavy and mean.. and fast.. and skilled
We are just fast and skilled. |
