Don't underestimate the Uzbekistan D. They got the Red Army out of their zone pretty cleanly...

AEL_FOX can sleak more toward authority on this since he watches many Rockford games

Hillman i do not trally think has regtessed. Maybe not advanced a lot in hus development but it is more a wuestiin of hiw giid can he become. AEL_FOX saud Gilbert has progressed ahead of him. And actually Hillman was rated way fiwn the list and nkt spoken as a sure fure prosoect by one if those scouting services....which is a bunch of bullpoop

The Bkackhawks have seen plenty of him in roomies camo and Traverse City. Skates well for his size, willing to be mean, a defensive dman but has enough ability to rush the puck up ice which he did as a collegiate. He is a smart player. Hillman played a smart conservative game and had a giak in his bruef Blackhawk trial last season.

Right now i suspect that Carlsson wull earn a jib and euthet Hillman or Gilbert could gaun a foothold as a tough third pair. What sude defense is needed and how far the team gies befire eithet Koekkoeck and or Forsling make it in nhl.....that comes first. I am going with Koekkoeck makes it, Forsling needs a year AHL and Dahlstrom is depth. If Dahkstrom would use his bidy effectively and regularly as a big size dman. Then that could blick both Gilbert and Hillman. Not going ti keep Carlssin back though

Thoughts on Beaudin?
- EbonyRaptor

He's very quick, he's kinda like a waterbug the way he darts around. He looks really small, but he'll get involved along the boards and in front of the net. Defensively he's pretty good, he positions himself quite well in passing and shooting lanes. He's an exceptional passer both moving the puck out of his end and in the offensive zone. He doesn't have a big shot but he has a decent release. The QMJHL is almost all offense so it's hard to get a real read if his offensive numbers can be duplicated in other leagues.

If the leafs don't do well in this year's playoffs Babcock will be feeling some serious heat. And if Matthews is as ineffective as he was against Boston last season he too will feel the wrath of the fickle Leaf fans.

And if that happens it might be time to blow up the Leafs, in which case the Hawks would be happy to take Kapanen and Johnsson off their hands.

If Marner gets what he deserves (a minimum of $10.5 a year), they will have to blow it up anyway to field a roster of minimum salaried players.

Contrary to what our Toronto friend BlazingDenial wants to acknowledge - they gunna be sum changes a happenin. Toronto will be fortunate to re-sign Marner for $10M and they probably won't be that fortunate.

If I'm his agent - that would be sweet - I wonder how a short deal looks for Marner? All depends on the cap's future, I guess. Guys like he and Matthews will next be FA's at near 30. Will they get another max deal then? If Marner does 4 years now at $10M (instead of 11+ for 8 years) per year, he's a FA again in his prime. Then he can sign another 8 year deal for sure; and if the cap goes up a lot, maybe that's at $13-14M?

They are at 73.5M for next year with 16 players. Should be an interesting summer for Leaf fans.

* New Guys – lastly, I am expecting some "new guys" to pop up for a bit of a trial in these remaining games.

I think the Hawks are still intrigued by Victor Ejdsell and his NHL-calibre shot. While he hasn't had an amazing season, Colliton is familiar with him and might give him a couple of games to see where his skating is at vs. NHL talent.

Matthew Highmore is a guy that I have been talking about lately. He is skating and should be returning in the next few weeks to the IceHogs. After a couple of games in the AHL, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a cup of coffee as well.

The Hawks defence is a great unknown/disaster right now. Do the Hawks want to see what they have in a guy like Lucas Carlsson before the NHL season ends? I would say yes. He has had a strong campaign and I have heard they are liking his progression a lot.

Hi Justin, not sure if anyone has mentioned this but my understanding of the Seattle expansion draft in 2020 is that anyone who has 10 or more games played in the NHL at the end of this year would have to be protected or risk losing. If that's the case I wouldn't expect anyone to be brought up that would push them over the 10 games. I think Edsell has 6 and Carlsson 0.

They have a projected cap space of approx. $3.6 mil. till end of the year also and possible bonuses of $5.4 mil. so they could end up with a $1.8 mil. carryover into next year too. They need to get Horton's $5.3 million off the books to start.

True, but they do have back one of their best PK guys...Crawford can make some big saves at times. Maybe it will help.
