True. Cat poop is probably much healthier for you. Probably tastes better too.
Maybe you can just chug a bag of sour milk (with lumps). Surely that would be easier. |

Matthews, Tavares, Marner, Rielly = Crosby, Malkin, Kessel, Letang.
There, I said it.
Also, in a few years, when the Pens guys all get older and slower and ours just get better, it will be: Matthews, Tavares, Marner, Rielly > Crosby, Malkin, Kessel, Letang.

Crosby and Malkin have edge now, but Rielly is and will be better than Letang and Marner is on another level from Kessel. Also Nylander. |

Marner and Reilly with the edge over Kessel and Letang. So sounds about right. |

They're not equal, but in a few years, they will be better.
That said, the Leafs are deeper than the Pens at F and maybe even at D right now - in fact, outside of Letang and to a lesser extent Schultz, the Pens D is pretty (frank)ing awful. Dumoulin is a bottom guy on a contender, and Johnson-Gudbranson might actually be the worst pair in the league - as in, Ron Hainsey would be an improvement... |

Well if we merely go by points it's pretty close, at least if you factor in Matthews' injury.
Crosby : 83
Malkin: 66
Kessel: 65
Letang: 53
Although I suppose Guentzel deserves a mention as he's turning into a stud: 60
Marner: 81
Tavares: 72
Reilly: 63
Matthews: 60 (in only 52 gp)
Our match for Guentzel if he'd played the whole year would probably be Nylander.
A few Pittsburgh players have missed a few games, like Malkin only playing 59, but it's not as much missed time as Matthews so whatever...
So by points at least, I'd say it's pretty damn close. But you'll find a reason to disagree, since you're a troll. |

The whole point of my saying those Leafs players are equal to those Pens players was just in response to the idiot complainer earlier saying our guys weren't even close. All due to him female doging about Nylander's contract originally and ballooning from there.
Feel free to backread a few pages if you really want context. |

I think the Leafs as a team, with this core, has a very similar high ceiling as the Pens and Hawks did, in their prime. The Leafs are just entering their prime going into these playoffs imo. |

So you're talking about comparing them today, not about the Leafs today compared to the 21 year old version of Crosby, Malkin etc.?
Today, they might be close in points and in the future they'll be stronger than they are today and stronger than the older Penguins, for sure, but there's a lot of hardware that those Penguins players had won at 20-23 that the Leafs players haven't won.
If there's a team today that is equal to the Penguins (the younger days), Tampa Bay looks a lot closer to equal (Kucherov, Stamkos, Hedman, Vasilevskiy, Point etc.) |

Combined 4G 4A 8Pts
Matthews 1G 1pt
Tavares 1G 1A 2pts

Like I mentioned in my last post, the whole reason I even posted this was in response to that aminnes guy a few pages back arguing about how the Leafs aren't at all comparable to the recent Caps or Pens teams to win cups because apparently our players aren't as good.
I simply think there's an argument our core players are pretty close to their level.
And Tampa is stacked, yeah. Stupid Florida tax situation makes things so much easier for them.
Although they also deserve credit for smart drafting, developing, trades, etc. too. |

He was comparing the two teams and saying the Penguins had legitimate MVPs, league leaders etc. which were previous teams (younger ages, solid hardware and accomplishments), not how they stack up this year though.
That's why I'm asking, are you comparing them today or how the Penguins looked 2 or 3 or 10 years ago? And either way, Tampa Bay still looks like the team more equal to the Penguins of the past (and better today too obviously). |

Pens just won two cups. You're talking about when Crosby and Malkin were in their early 20's aren't you? And no on brought up Tampa until you did.
As for leauge leaders, Marner is currently sitting at 8th or 9th? Matthews was 1st earlier in the year until his injury that caused him to miss 14 games (although it's unlikely he'd have kept up his original pace all year), Tavares is also in the top 20 and 4th in goals.
Who cares if they aren't winning the Art Ross or Rocket? Close enough. |

They did. They also won a Cup young (where the Leafs are now but without the Art Ross / Hart winners) and they won them a little bit older (when they were finally healthy and in their prime). But either way, they were the best players in the game like McDavid and Kucherov would be considered today, whom don't play for the Leafs.
I did bring up Tampa Bay but only because they're a more accurate comparison to the Penguins of the past and also the team that the Leafs have to be able to beat every year to make it far in the playoffs. |
