For a guy who would get close to zero PP time in the playoffs, 20 points in 59 playoff games is okay middle six production. The idea that he was useless in the playoffs is overblown as well.
- j.boyd919

I don't believe I said useless, but it was evident that he could be hammered and made into a bad player against bigger teams. And that is why our team could swap with him Horny on that top line, depending on the matchups.

what? i thought sheary was solid in the playoffs. the pens willingly gave up the point yesterday in appreciation. we owed him for G2OT in the finals vs. SJS.

Because I don't care for blaming the refs for wins/losses.

We know it was a really stupid trade by JR. Hunwick was not that bad, Sheary just can be muscled up on hard in the post season. Kid needs to add ~10 pounds.
- Guile

It wasn't a stupid trade. Stupid enters the equation when JR spent the savings on a bottom pairing dman.

Nah, I think it was a very stupid trade. Sheary, on a bad year... had 18 goals. The year before, 23... so a 20 goal scoring winger at 3 mil, and a bottom pairing Dman at 2.25... for a 4th that might become a 3rd rounder.

Nah, it was stupid move before signing Johnson.

You stanning Hunwick is weird. He absolutely sucked here and you want to avoid giving out money to bottom pairing D men as much as possible.

We'll agree to disagree. Guy was completely replaceable by a player like Simon at less than a 3rd of the price. Sheary has gone from 23, 18 and now 11. He has 2 goals in his last 34 playoff games. When games tighten up and whistles are put away Sheary's lack of size and strength is glaring.

They gave up a replaceable player to get rid of a bad player and saved 5.25 million. I think it was a brilliant move until JR puked on himself and spent a good chunk of it on a bottom pairing dman for 5 effing years.

You are entitled to a wrong opinion. Hunwick as your #6 Dman is passable.
- Guile

No! You're entitled to YOUR wrong opinion lol

We're dealing with relativity right now. Hunwick was and is a bad defenseman. Relative to Johnson he's a serviceable dman, but when you don't have a JJ in your lineup he's likely you're worst dman.

The point of getting him out of the lineup was that he sucked and the Pens needed to upgrade... they failed.

I'm not sure if you guys talked about it or not, but how about that Sean Avery video? He's probably top-five in my most hated players ever, but for that brief moment I liked him.

I understand when he's says Benedict Tavares was never in trouble with the law and played with his head down during his nine years, but I think Isles fans, including many of my buddies, are justified at the cold reception he got in his return given how we stringed them along during his impending FA.

If anything, this still didn't feel nearly as hostile as the reception KD felt in his return to OKC.

Hunwick would be the 9th or 10th dman on our depth chart.

Maybe 11th.

Did JT string them along? He was seriously considering staying despite the ineptitude of the franchise. I don’t think that’s stringing along. I think that’s giving a legitimate shot to an organization that maybe didn’t deserve it and squandered a ton of his Prime with uncompetitive teams.

If Islander fans are angry at anyone they should be angry with ownership for never seriously building a good team around him. Most times, teams and players don't like to handle negotiations mid-season.

This was a big life choice for him. How dare he take the time to mull it over.
