I like him, but not sure he's ready for the big time. Hopefully he can garner the trust of the Bellvegas gang and get them into the playoffs. |

If he takes them on a strong playoff run.
But, I think you are right and it makes a lot of sense. He seems to be doing good job with kids.

Pierre Dorion is in so far over his head it isn't funny.
The guy should be a head scout. That is what he knows how to do. He bungles everything else he touches.
I feel bad for Senator fans. You don't deserve this mess. - punchanello77
Dorian subtracts hoffman, karlson, duchene, dzingle and stone off the roster and then blames the coach for the lack of success? What the hell is this guy on? Scotty Bowman couldn't coach that team to victory most nights. How bad does it have to get before the NHL steps in and get this tire fire under control? |

I lost it when the Sens twitter referred to the team as the "rebuilding Ottawa Senators" |

Bottoming out is ugly. You can make it seem less severe by slowing the process down. Or, you can make it intensely severe and ugly like the Sens.
As a rebuild theory, what the Sens are doing is probably the right way to go.
If we are lucky, the tv broadcast of the draft lottery draw will be our moment of full bottom (no guarantee).
If nothing else we can take some comfort in the knowledge that the rest of the league is finally beginning to discover what this fragile ownership has been doing to this franchise. Bottom is not possible without a change in ownership.
Bottoming out and new beginning are synonymous. Where is the 2020 draft being held?

this is going to worse than an edmonton oiler rebuild

 awesome gif
i think it's going to be equally bad, just different.
edmonton had money but terrible players and prospects (outside of 2-3 guys)
ottawa is the opposite, they have a wealth of young talent, but an owner that will eventually drive them away because he's broke and a giant piece of poop.
i think both teams are years and years away from respectability.
i see one positive (not for sens fans but in general) as atleast the great players in the ottawa organization are going to get the chance to succeed with good teams.....poor McDavid and Draisaitl are going to rot away in Edmonton and likely never taste any team success |

I mean this is a complete rebuild- unlike 2011 when we kept our star players and core. This is what part of the fanbase has been calling for for several years to be able to compete. Remember, we have been dead last for two years with Karlsson, Stone and Duchene...
I feel with a veteran manager/coach, this can be a quick turn around. It's a trend we've seen in today's nhl in recent years

as long as melnyk owns the team the sens will be in a endless rebuild as players will bolt faster than Garfield eats a lasagna the second they become UFAs....The Sens are become a development team for the rest of the NHL.
Melnyk is flat broke and the NHL is damaging its name by allowing this fire to continue, 400m of his "reported 1B$ wealth" is the sens themselves, he has next to no liquid assets, as in cash, his "wealth" is mostly in property holdings. |

Yes- he's terrible and the NHL should step in. This week alone should be evidence enough with the proposed arena deal falling through. However, I feel like Dorion will start taking on contracts as soon as the summer/draft- he has to ice some sort of team for next season. This lineup is a mess and you can't subject the young guys to this. Pageau/Smith won't cut it |

Possible next coach:
Lindy Ruff (assistant in NYR)
Todd McLellan
Bob Hartley
Dan Bylsma (assistant in DET)
Dave Tippett
Michel Therrien
Randy Carlyle
Patrick Roy
Luke Richardson (assistant in MTL)
Sheldon Keefe (coach of Toronto Marlies)
Jim Montgomery (coach at University of Denver)
Who do you want? - AlfieisKing
Lindy Ruff would be awesome (But that's a joke)
I wouldn't mind giving Dan Bylsma a shot
Joel Quenneville would be my #1
Luke Ruchardson would be interesting as well.
I really only have two worries.
#1. Melnyk wont attract good coaches because they know he wont pay
#2. Marc Crawford will take over for the year and not have instant success and they will let him go as well

Mark Crawford hiring means you have a long rebuild and he's there to just take the L. |

Crawford said yesterday he is just a fill in for the rest of the year and he has no intention of signing on as a head coach on any team in the NHL.
My worry is that they will ride him out the rest of the year and then let him go too. |

kind of off topic, but i've been watching the Belleville games the last couple of days.
it's kind of ridiculous how much young talent is on that team.....
Brannstrom is insanely good, he's on another level.
Batherson-Paul-Brown line is just dominant, they basically control the play every second they're on the ice
Abramov is super talented....sick speed, great shot, silky hands...kind of reminds me of watching Gaudreau (obviously not that good, similar style though)
Chlapik seems like he's going to be more of a 3rd line guy...but still good. has a complete game
honestly, the guy that surprised me the most was Englund. he was solid. not a ton on the offensive end, but so good defensively. the announcers were praising him the whole game, and they went on and on about how they feel he'll be a really good NHL player
Lajoie also looked great back down there, seems to have gotten some confidence back
Hogberg is also great, he's a huge goalie. good fundamentals, moves well, and has a really quick glove
there is a lot of talent on that team.....very fun to watch.
obviously not all these guys will end up being impact players, but if even half of them work out the team has bright future.......... if we can get a new (frank)ing owner |

A new owner is the most important element for any significant long term improvement.
The delay in LeBreton is merely one more road block in the face of a relentless move towards a needed change in ownership structure.
This is all about one man and his desperate machinations to save what is left of his burnt out empire. The end is near. |

Just saw it, looked real nice.
The whole team seems to on a tear. Is Paul playing with Batherson and Brown?

Yup. They are so good together. Look like men against boys when they’re on the ice. |
