The slide rule applies to 18 & 19 year olds only, as I read it.

That's how I read it.

Seems so - think of all f the college players who play a game or two in the spring to burn off the first year of their ELC - as an incentive to sign - like Secura last spring.

I could be wrong - but I think either they're wrong about that or there is some nuance I'm not aware of. If the number is 40 games to constitute a year - than it can't be 10 games - doesn't make sense.

Also - consider the source - ESPN not exactly NHL focused.

You're right. Sorry for the confusion by referencing the ESPN link. I should have known better. This is from the CBA. 40 games on the active roster constitutes an accrued season just like Mohel referenced on his page 1 post.

As used in this Agreement, the following terms shall have the following
meanings:
"Accrued Season" means any League Year during which a Player was on a
Club's Active Roster for 40 (30 if the Player is a goalie) or more Regular Season Games, provided that, for the purposes of calculating an Accrued Season under this Agreement, games missed due to a hockey-related injury incurred while on a Club's Active Roster shall count as games played for purposes of calculating an Accrued Season but only during the League Year in which the injury was incurred and a maximum of one additional season.

I still think it could be due to the Seattle draft I believe less than 70 game series over last two seasons then the player doest need to be protected in the draft
- Abadseed

Been over the rules and that 70 games is actually part of a different rule. It comes down to how they calculate a year in the NHL. All first and second year players and unsigned draft picks are exempt. If 25 games is enough to be a rookie season in the NHL, I don't see how that doesn't count as the first year.

In a separate rule, the teams must expose one Dman and 2 forwards minimum who have played 40 games in the previous season or 70 games in the last two. That condition is separate from the exemption and doesn't imply the 40/70 games to the other rule.

The demotion of Joki looks like it has nothing to do with the draft. He just needs time to develop and the coaches know it.

Note: I stand corrected on the 40 games based on the above. I do think it is silly that you can have a rookie season not count as a year in the NHL.

Yep, that gets them to rfa status a year earlier, but doesn't help with ufa status. Of course, guys like that will be ufa at 27 anyway. This is only an issue for guys who start out in the NHL in their age 20 season or earlier.

I agree as far as the Seattle expansion draft is concerned, this season counts as Joki's first year, 40 games played or not. I am assuming he'll also meet the 40/70 games played in the next two years, so he'll be eligible for the draft unless the Hawks protect him.

A good example is Trevor Von Riemsdyk who was exposed by the Hawks to Las Vegas. He played 18 games for the Hawks in 14-15, 82 games in 15-16 and 58 games in 16-17. Like the upcoming Seattle draft, the Las Vegas draft said 1-2 year players can not be exposed. So Trevor's 18 game 14-15 season made him a 3 year player making him exposable to the draft.

Happy to have it sorted out as I wasn't 100% certain on any of that either - a fine job by the hockeybuzz team.

I predict Crawford to start Saturday against the Kings and given Sunday's San Jose game off so he doesn't risk being hit by Evander Kane.

We might have it in Forsberg, having another good year at the Rock, look how many young goalies struggle before making it, question is does Stan resign him this year?
- LAHawk

I hope he can take the next step, but I skeptical after last season. If he can become a legitimate NHL goalie, Saad keeps playing like he has the last month and a half, and Panarin signs somewhere for $10M, then the Panarin trade won't look so bad.

Definitely! He was noticeable the whole game, but the way he danced around Lindholm on the GWG was awesome!

I say Crow starts Saturday and take off Sunday.

Do you think the Blues can climb over both the Jets and Preds in the Central?
They are gaining ground and have 3 games in hand over the Preds.

Really hate delving into the "what ifs", but if Craw was back for last weekend's games, I think we would have been buyers this week (not suggesting that was the preferred course of action).
- TommyHawk

that's a reach...not with this defense...

he gave up 3 against a team that is probably worse than them;lowest scoring team in the league at 2.16/gm

all were gifted on mistakes

The Blues are a good example of how much getting good goaltending matters. Binnington has been the big difference for them and with Winnipeg and Nashville more or less just treading water lately I think the Blues have a good shot of winning the division.

I would also, plus the Kings are another team having a hard time scoring, let Ward take the LA game

I wonder if the ice quality will be as poor in LA as it was in Anaheim.
