Critiquing the defensive system based on the results presupposes that a different defensive system using the same players would produce better results. I didn't notice the results were better before Colliton took over or to put it a different way - Colliton's defensive system is not producing worse results. The defense has been a clown show all season - pre and post Colliton. Maybe it's a case of the players not being talented enough or dedicated enough to play good defense than a shortcoming of the defensive system being played.

Meanwhile most other teams in the league play a solid man to man as well. They just do it better. There are still rotations etc. but requires a lot of communication. Watch Tampa. McDonaugh said the other night how tough it is and how important communication is.

Margins are slim and errors/mistakes are not subtle.

Correct - it needs to be corrected. I just think that blaming the system obscures the root cause which is either the players aren't collectively good enough or they aren't dedicated enough to the defensive side of the puck or both. Maybe there is an argument to be made that playing a simpler defensive system wouldn't require as much from the players but there's also a negative aspect in acquiescing to a lower standard. I think Colliton knowing the players strengths and weaknesses and having a full training camp should result in improvement next season. Whether it's enough or not we'll see but it should be better.

Interesting seeing other teams play the same defensive scheme our "terrible" coach choose. Colliton is called a really bright guy yet he takes abuse on this board. Anyone know the defensive scheme Colliton preached last year when the Icehogs had a long playoff run?

Having a nice season when he is healthy. He had some serious concussion issues last season and was kinda hoping he would hang them up for his future health.
