I don't understand, but my post wasn't very clear either perhaps. I'm saying that they've gotten 1-2 good players players a couple times when drafting top 10 3 out of 5 years.

Examples would be Ladd/Staal, Skinner/Lindholm, Lindholm/Hanifin, Hanifin Svech.

My point being, most teams which draft in the top 10 for multiple years in a row are going to get a couple good players, so claiming Benning is good because Petey and Boeser doesn't hold weight with me. Now if 2 of Hughes, JV and Joulevi turn into impact players as well, I think it's fair to say Jim has been better than most teams.

- belcherbd

Except boeser was number 23 and doesn't fit your narrative, he's the exception that makes Jim Benning's rule.
Show me a team that has drafted two first line players in three years, one of them being a high and one of them being a low draft pick.

Hanifin and svech are both top 5 picks and aren't really comparable to demonstrate drafting acumen.

Edit, you're right.

How many top 10 picks has Benning hit on? One for sure.

There's an idea for Aquilini, add Canada under Vancouver on the jersey.

I've said it before. It's nice to find the later round gems but if you don't hit at the top of the draft then it doesn't really matter.
- golfingsince

I agree but also think you need to hit the later ones too, edm for example.

Bennings been good at hitting later picks, although he moves them prematurely to fill the "age gap" sometimes as well.

Nashville and SJ never get top picks at least recently and have been able to continue to build by hitting later players. Tampa hits everywhere.

You guys going to be ok without a whipping boy?

Guddy traded.
Edler/Sutter injured.
Markstrom playing better.
Eriksson quietly playing on the 4th line consistently.

ah. nvm.
Almost forgot about D.Pouliot.
As you were.

Not to worry, this group always finds someone to complain about, I’ve only seen 4 people exempt....Pettersson, Horvat, Boeser and Green. One is still to shiny and new, one is captain material, one is a defensive liability but has a flow, and one needs to be fired but gets a free pass.

I said near the end of January that the next 20 games we needed to win at least 12 out of the next 20 and we have lost what 9 out of 12 so far? We are not making the playoffs. The dream/prediction I had at the beginning of the season isn't dead yet but its close.

I don't get the "plan", why rotate between top pair and pressbox? It's not as bad as mccann and JV's development plans but still seems erratic. By now they should either cut him loose or let him play IMO.

I hope they plant Eriksson in the pressbox, it will be a good message to send to the vets.

Jake obviously, I'd be inclined to include pettersson as well.

Don't shut the door on OJ just yet, he was staring to produce at a ppg level in the AHL before he got injured. Hughes looks more of a blue chip boom or bust type. Hope it's a boom.

Rumour has it he's good friends with Panarin, and he's showcasing his skills in an attempt to convince his friend to join Vancouver in the offseason.

Not only is Brock bad at defense, he is becoming more of a puckhog and bad decision maker, reminds me of how Goldobin plays.

Yes, Goldobin has looked good for his 4 shifts this period.

I had a similar thought when he gained the zone, had a few primo passing options and fumbled it, after looking for a long wrist shot with no one in front of the net.
Needs to pass more, hold the puck less.

Probably trying to do too much himself.

Edit:
Just catching up on 2nd period play.
Hey!
What a concept!!
