I keep reading by different people that the Flyers didnt get value for Simmonds..

Other than video game GM mode what value should they have gotten for Simmonds?

- opeth_pa

at least the value of Nyqvist which was a 2nd and 3rd

Nyquist > Simmonds

Hartman + 4th > 2nd + 3rd (from the Flyers' standpoint)

I don’t get it dude one time last year I think I called Kris Letang, not even another poster, a retard or something like that and I got banned for a week. You guys full on fire handicap slurs at each other left and right with memes and whatnot and no one bats an eye haha
- stayinthefnnet

Actually that was the guy from the Penguin board that was machine gunning those memes....that Guile kid.

Trust me bans here are more confusing than penalties in the NHL.

This post got me a ban a little while ago...no joke.

How is cap space an asset when the player was going to be off the books next year in any event? Not trying to be a smartass but I legitimately don’t follow.

It’s not like you can carry it over into next season. And you would have theoretically gained that “asset” by simply not signing him even if you didn’t make a deal. The cap space was an inevitable outcome in any situation other than signing him to an extension.

That's the whole point. Now you know what we are dealing with

I wouldn’t be shocked at all if Wayne Simmonds looks like his normal self. Peter Laviolette is the guy that made Wayne Simmonds to begin with. If Simmonds isn’t in the crease, you’re not using him properly. Plus I wouldn’t be surprised if he saw an opportunity in a top six role. Playing Patrick and Laughton isn’t going to cut it. This isn’t say say Laughton or Patrick are bad players, they’re just young developing players. In my opinion, Patrick has to become a much better playmaker.
- SuperSchennBros

Pretty certain that Simmer only played one year for Lavy. Quite a stretch to say he made Simmonds in the first place.

Don't get it as well.We go nuclear this season with kicking the GM and the coach and replaced him with a gray mouse and GM doing just complete unspectacular things all season long .At least in case of Weal he should have asked for a used Zamboni.
But with doing nothing and just called up Hart on day Hextall was fired we would be in same spot by now and not making the play-off

Everybody complaining Wayne was too slow, not good enough with the puck, not good enough without the puck, and couldn't create his own offense.

So they get Hartman, who's fast, somewhat skilled, decent two-ways, and can create his own offense. Oh, and turns out the guy is kinda gritty to boot.

And they still complaining. Like Simmer was ever gonna net you Mark Stone.

- Tomahawk

I don't think anyone thought that.

I just thought they would do better than a prettier version of Scott Laughton.

Fletcher said they wanted a roster player, one who could play in the top 9 an step in for Simmer, they have enough picks. He was saying it was a buyers market for forwards

I do think Fletcher tried to address FIT on the team. I have said for a while that the Flyers have to many of the same player. All individually good, but not everyone can be a net front presence

I'm thankful that Fletcher didn't do anything stupid. As far as the return for Simmonds it will remain to be seen. It's going to depend on how Hartmen plays here and if he gets resigned or not.

Maybe Couts and Amac both get it now. I’d go with Gudas or Jake though

I am not disputing the decision to not re-sign him, why don't you get that????

- Glak18

LOL, inventing your own reality. I have not stated or in anyway insinuated that you have disputed it. What are you talking about?

The Flyers are not re-signing Simmonds because they would rather use that cap space somewhere else. Boom DONE.

- Glak18

Yes, exactly. So you finally realize that I'm correct that part of the value of making the move not to re-sign him and trade him is they now have cap space to use in another manner in the future! Took long enough.

Now on to the REAL discussion. Why did they trade Simmonds instead of keeping him to finish the last 20 games as a Flyer. ASSETS!!!!

- Glak18

Obviously. Who has said any different.

Actually Glak is one of the only people who does that when he gets it handed to him. It reflects on him.

It's all encompassing. The decision not to re-sign him comes first. Then the decision to trade him. By not re-signing him, the Flyers gain more cap flexibility for next season minus what it cost to re-sign Hartman.
It's simple cap and roster management. All connected. The GM said the cap space is what it ultimately came down to for him in making the decision on how to handle the Simmonds situation. How can the factor that was the ultimate factor in the decision not be a part of the value of the move? In a cap situation, you have to expand the thinking of a normal hockey trade. That's difficult for those who like to call others "special people".

Cap is good, 10 picks this draft and still a pretty full prospect pool. This draft moves need to be made...

I don't see a spot for Simmonds next year and I doubt Simmonds is willing to play on the 4th line for short term and lower salary that he is making now.

TOP 9
Giroux
Couturier
Patrick
Voracek
Konecny
JvR
Lindblom

There's 7 Simmonds is not playing over. Now if Frost makes the team there's 8. Now if the wildest dreams come true and the Flyers luck out with Hughes or Kakko OR they sign a top 6 winger now Simmonds has 0% chance of cracking the top 9.

- Glak18

You named 7 players that are already here, while Simmonds was here. How do you not see a fit? Adding Frost still leaves a roster spot open...but please continue to allow your Imagination run wild.
