He also plays on a better team. I think Simmonds is going to thrive in Nashville and help them a great deal. We knew going into it that the Flyers were going to be giving up the best player in the deal.

This is so true. Which is why I am giving Hartman a fair shot to prove himself. It has to be rough being traded for a Philly fan favorite. I’d like to see what he brings without the comparison.

Two assets is more than no assets - I'll stipulate to that.

Hartman seems meh to me. If they kept Simmonds and didn't sign him in the off-season they could use his cap space to fill the slot.

I just didn't view moving him today as critical to the success of the team and I don't think the move today improved them. I wouldn't have been upset at all had they not moved him.

this doesn't make sense to me. why wouldn't you want to get something for him? Hartman is making like 875K and is a RFA. he isnt going to alter the flyers off season plans, hartman is also only 24.

Hartman has 20 Even strength points and gets no PP time so 0 pp pts
Simmonds has 19 ES points and 8 PP pts with a boat load of pp time

Everyone needs to check their emotions and overreactions at the door

- bulet13

Hartman is probably going to get time on both the PP and the PK just because of the latent opportunity.

Plus, the Flyers now need to see if they want to keep this guy. He's an RFA this year.

This part is my basic summary/opinion of the trade:
I just didn't view moving him [Simmonds] today as critical to the success of the team and I don't think the move today improved them. I wouldn't have been upset at all had they not moved him.

I'm not going to be one of these guys on the internet who thinks I have an indepth analysis on every player in the NHL. However from a fans point of view and with a cursory knowledge of the player, the Flyers got a bottom 6 player who has some skill and some grit to his game. He can at least upgrade the 4th line moving forward and probably a 3rd line player for now. Hopefully he can also take on some other roles. It's not a great trade but it's what was available. The market had a number of quality forwards that were dealt.

Wayne has also not played great lately. I read something like 1 goal in 16 games.

I'm fine with the return at this point. Wish he was dealt when he had more value but they at least got something.

Hindsight. Team thought they were gonna be competitors this year so they wanted him for the playoffs.

Be tough for Hartman walking into the locker room the first time being the guy traded for Simmer

well Simmer was on a torrid pace with goals lately, that makes it difficult to accept a bottom 6 forward.

I think Simmonds is going to show the player that he still is in Nashville.

I hope he does, but if he struggles with one of the better teams in the league and has trouble fitting in there, wish him the best finding a team next year.

I don't think the situation was right for him at 5 on here and the Flyers PP as a whole struggled.

Hartman was someone I said we shouldve targeted last year at the TDL. I honestly think he will be a good fit here. We should all be hoping for nothing but success for him, and a cup for simmer

Like I said,I hope he succeeds cause he's awesome but I'm not sure this will happen. I do think he will have a bounce back next year as he fully recovers from that abdominal surgery but I think Simmers best seasons are probably behind him

this will help the believers and non-believers of the Simmer trade

Apparently the Pens fans don't like their trades today and one said this

Fit is an issue for Philly, Hartman might fit better.

Also think Simmer needed this change
