I feel the same way. And it looks like they are going to give this guy every opportunity to play. So, we'll see.

So logically, since Fletcher didn't convince someone that Simmonds is worth 20 consecutive first round picks, he's a bad GM. I mean, if he was any good at his job, he should have been able to convince someone of that, right?
- jmatchett383

In looking at some of the deals that were made for forwards by some of the teams that were supposedly linked to Simmer, we can see the thinking;

Boston sent a 2nd (2019) and 4th (2020) to NJD for Johanson. (NO)
Jets got Matt Hendricks for a 7th and Jets get Lindholm for Petan. (NO)
SJ did a one for one trade. (NO)
Calgary never got a forward. (Curious to see what their offer was)

I have to believe that the Jets wanted Hayes over Simmonds because I think Fletcher would have made this trade;
Jets got Hayes for a first and young forward. That conditional pick only happens if Jets win Cup.

Flyers get Hartman and a 3rd (essentially) for Simmonds.

And Carter Hart was assigned to the Phantoms!!!!

But Hartman isn't a top-6 forward or current 1st round pick.

Neither was Simmonds when he was traded to the Flyers. Not you, but generally people do realize Simmonds was a bottom 6 2nd rounder when he was traded to the Flyers at 23 years old...

So if the condition on the pick continued to be 2 rounds won it becomes a 2nd, reach Cup it’s a 1st, would people still call this a dumb trade?

Nope I remember very clearly when simmer was traded everyone was saying how he would absolutely be a 30 goal scorer and leader for this team. It was clear as day thats what simmonds would turn into and Hartman never will

Did these "lesser" players have term left?
- bulet13

No. The deal below is close to what we got for Simmonds.

Oscar Fantenberg got 2020 conditional 4th

Look at the other players that got dealt and tell me Simmonds is not as good if not better than those guys.

According to his ATOI stats, he does not, but I'm sure he'll be given every opportunity to do that here:

On natural stat trick, it shows PK time for him. Also, I thought I read earlier today from someone who watches the Preds say Hartman plays some PK.

I know. I was just trying to start unnecessary sh1t. I figured that would be a huge issue for those that didn't understand why it had to be done.

hahaha dude i cant believe i even have to respond to this. that guy got ONLY a fourth. We also got a roster player who has as many even strength goals as Simmonds, is only 24, a former first round pick, AND got traded for a first rounder last year. but keep living in your delusion. You were probably one of the people who said we traded Schenn for Lehtera...what a joke

1.) Simmonds' numbers in LA before he got here far exceeded anything Hartman has done to this point in his career. In Simmers' age 23 year in Philly, he put up 49 points. Hartman hasn't come close to that yet. Plus, Simmonds wasn't the main guy in the deal when he came here.

2.) This is Hartman's 3rd organization in under 2 years. That's usually not a good thing.

I'm willing to take it on faith that with some added opportunity, Hartman might be better than everyone thinks, but let's not get crazy with the Wayne Simmonds comparisons.

First 3 seasons in NHL

Simmonds (3 years in LA)
240 GP 39-54-93 +12 264 PIM

Hartman
226 GP 40-43-83 +19 188 PIM

So...how did Simmer's time in LA "far exceed" anything that Hartman has done?

Again like I stated, that was the closest equivalent. I wasnt going to sit there and list off every deal out there. Hartman is a bottom 6 player. If you replace Hartman with Weise is that still a good deal because that is essentially what you are saying

People who overvalued simmonds are extremely unhappy

People who understand what simmer's worth on the market are okay with it

Realistically, this deal won't move the needle much. But Hartman has similair career numbers to Simmonds when Simmonds was 24 and has good pedigree. Dude's only 24. He could turn into a 20 goal, 40 pt player, or cap out at 15 goals 30 pts. Either way, Simmonds wasn't coming back and we got something for him. The third rounder isnt a super valuable pick but tis another lottery ticket and it could also be used in another trade. Assets are assets.
