Whatever you have to tell yourself
- Flyers1218

Don’t need to tell myself anything. The rest of the league spoke. That was the market for Simmonds.

well Simmer was on a torrid pace with goals lately, that makes it difficult to accept a bottom 6 forward.
- wcorvette

And if Simmonds kept up that torrid pace, we'd still be a lottery team with nothing to show for it in 6 weeks. Any decent GM shouldn't be fooled by recency bias, IMO.

haha if he didn't get traded. crisis averted. i'm just kidding, it was funny reading though.
- Ftown19125

Yeah I threw out some drama queen ranting, but the truth is still there. It would of been bad if nothing happened.

Like I said, Fletcher HAD to trade Simmonds or anyone for that matter. It's not like Simmonds and his possible 4 more goals for the Flyers would of made that big of a difference.

I mean Simmonds is on pace for ALMOST 30 goals...still stuck on 16.

Let's be honest guys.

Fletcher has multiple offers today of Simmonds that included superstars and multiple first round picks, but he was holding out for Ryan Hartman.

I haven't watched him more than a dozen times over the last 2 seasons. But I keyed on him when I did watch because I liked him back on his WJC days. So not extensive, no, but I always watched him more than the average player.

And you actually said you don't think this makes the Flyers better. In the short term, maybe not. Going forward, I don't see how that's the case assuming they don't straight up give away the 2 assets they got. Maybe not leaps and bounds better, but definitely better.

4 units of better, which is pretty much 15 hard works.
- jmatchett383

Haha, I was just fishing for someone to quantify.

In was fishing to see if EDM affects their perception of him.

Don’t have expectations of your own. Only those that rely on the internet for friends and post every single day are allowed opinions. And if you thought they’d get something for Simmonds when everyone else got massive hauls, well you’re an idiot

Hopefully Bill writes a blog showing all of you insane people that this was a realistic trade and that Hartman is a solid player because FlyerzBuzz is too much right now. Idk what you people thought you were getting. You know what gets you a first and a prospect? A 50-60 point center like Kevin Hayes, clearly not Simmonds.

Yet in the real world that is what the value of Simmonds was worth.

Simmonds has 27 points. Is -20. Who’s drinking the kool aid?
- Just5

Bill tweeted that Hartman has more ES points then Simmonds this season. Sad to see Simmonds go, but unless your placing a tax on intangibles, the haul wasn t bad

No question. Fletcher isn't a fan of Johnny Hockey, so he held out for Hartman.

Shame on us.

But really, firing Hextall..spur of the moment..with the dubious Fletcher..smacks of an interesting tell-all.

I suspect that Hartman will be given every opportunity to play, so I'm sure we'll see.

75% of third round picks don't have an NHL career over 100 games. They're great if you want to stock your AHL team, though.

Lot of people were wrong about Gudas post-trade. I think Hartman will similarly prove useful.

Okay, you've all convinced me. This was a good trade by Fletcher. Hartman is what the Flyers need and third round picks are valuable.

They're also good for getting NHL role players in trades

No, no...the correct response would be waiting to see how Hartman is used and how he plays for the Flyers first.

It’s not the best trade but it’s better than nothing (imo). Plus who knows, maybe Simmonds doesn’t get the long deal offered by other teams come summer time and he circles back to us for a short term deal. Having said that, apparently Simmer found out he was traded via TSN on TV so he may be angry at us lol.

Most of Nashville's forwards are considered role players on other teams

That's to be expected these days, news travels too fast with social media and whatnot. Fletch could have still been on the phone while this happened

What changed? I thought Simmer was UFA this summer? How do we think we could get a large haul that immediately makes our team better? The top UFA out there was Stone. He got a 2nd, a good prospect, and a depth forward. We got a young NHL player with promise and, essentially, a 3rd round pick. Trades happened today that affected Fletcher's approach. It was reported that his asking price was a 1st and a prospect/NHL player. He would have made the deal if a team came close. We also may not know how Simmer's NTC affected the deals. Supposedly Calgary made an offer but they were on Simmer's NO list.

Overall, a solid trade. Hartman replaces Simmer on 3rd line (but not PP) and offers a better overall game then Simmer. We will never be able to replace the leadership, desire, balls, etc. of Simmer but I think this was a good trade.
