And this is based on your extensive watching of Hartman?

He's a good player. He's not a superstar. He's a good skater who will give you 15 goals and can play on the PK, will get in on the forecheck and give you solid bottom-6 minutes.

He's also an RFA, so if they don't qualify him, they'll have the cap space. I don't see the downside at all.

- jmatchett383

Nope. Looked at his stats. But based on your comments I'll assume you have watched him extensively so I'll defer to your analysis.

I didn't say there was a downside. I said I'm not impressed.

I stayed consistent the whole time!

1) Never believed Simmonds was worth a 1st and/or a good prospect
2) Didn't care about return as long as they got something

My expectations were realistic, everyone who had are upset had unreasonable expectations. That is THEIR fault, not Simmonds or Fletcher's fault.

- Glak18

besides that little epic disaster freak out you had, yeah you were consistent.

So to sum up Flyersbuzz..

BEFORE DEADLINE
Ermahgerd they better trade Simmonds vs letting him walk for free.

AFTER DEADLINE
Ermahgerd they traded Simmonds and didn't get value for him.

- opeth_pa

Pretty much.

And let's be real....people on this board aren't the only ones who thought they'd get more. People that write about the team, cover the team, etc. It's not like just this board had more expectations than what Fletcher got here. Maybe we overvalue Simmonds. Maybe Chuck Fletcher is bad at this. Maybe the market wasn't there.

It's OK to have wanted Simmonds traded AND to think Fletcher got a mediocre (at best) return for him. Both can be true.

I hope Ryan Hartman is as good as some are making him out to be. I question players at age 24 getting traded around the league like this (3rd team at age 24), but what do I know.

This team is officially Super Charmin soft now.
- Hatchet

Really? Calling up Morin and trading summer for Hartman who is also a very physical guy who plays with an edge plus is a better goal scorer than Simmonds was at the same age and you still want to female dog about it. Some of you people are unreal

I haven't watched him more than a dozen times over the last 2 seasons. But I keyed on him when I did watch because I liked him back on his WJC days. So not extensive, no, but I always watched him more than the average player.

And you actually said you don't think this makes the Flyers better. In the short term, maybe not. Going forward, I don't see how that's the case assuming they don't straight up give away the 2 assets they got. Maybe not leaps and bounds better, but definitely better.

I’m a fan of Ryan Hartman, but this trade sucks. And by sucks, I mean really sucks. Keep drinking the kool-aid
- Flyers1218

Simmonds has 27 points. Is -20. Who’s drinking the kool aid?

Don’t have expectations of your own. Only those that rely on the internet for friends and post every single day are allowed opinions. And if you thought they’d get something for Simmonds when everyone else got massive hauls, well you’re an idiot

To be fair we were expecting a better return. 4th(3rd if NSH wins a round) and a 1st round bust is worthless. He has more value on our team. I would have settled for a 2nd but I draw the line there.

Bill, I haven't posted in a while (more lurking from time to time), but I wanted to say that that was a great post. Just an awesome tribute to Simmer, and the pic of your son and Bernie was awesome!

I'm going to miss Wayne ... easily my favorite Flyer.

- sirpaulj7

Thanks Wayne. Great flyer. Glad he's going to Nashville with lavy. I hope he makes it to the scf where he'll lose to Tampa.

Didn't really get much for him but maybe Hartman is better than I think.

It was a decent trade. It's not a showstopper like some unrealistic people wanted, but it wasn't a bad one, either.

well Simmer was on a torrid pace with goals lately, that makes it difficult to accept a bottom 6 forward.

That depends on how you feel about 3rd round picks such as Ghost.
- NC Flyers Fan

75% of third round picks don't have an NHL career over 100 games. They're great if you want to stock your AHL team, though.

Half of the people in this chat are morons. Simmonds has been trash defensively for years and now it’s easy to see how quickly he is regressing. Good trade

Simmonds is just a rental with a legitimate chance to play for the cup, then he can make his own choice at free agency. I’d liked to be happy for him. He has a chance to make the best out of this.
