Bill have you ever touched the cup? (that sounds weird)
- hockeylover

I don't believe that I am entitled to do so, so no. Have taken photos OF the cup, photos of my son and my nephews standing next to the Cup and was in one myself, but have never physically touched the trophy and don't plan to.

Generally speaking, I'd want a young NHL-ready player with some upside -- flexible as to whether that's a forward or a D -- and a first-round pick in either 2019 or 2020. Yes, that it an extremely high ask for Radko Gudas, and his value as a rental piece a year from now would be way lower. But he's been having the best season of his career and he brings things most every team can use.

Kind of what i was thinking.

Thanks

Very cool that your son was able to meet Bernie and get that photo, Bill. I have met Bernie (who was my childhood hero) at many charity functions over the years and he's always been a pleasure to chat with and he's always happy to pose for a photo too.

I too will miss Simmer when he's inevitably traded today. Class acts like Wayne Simmonds are few and far between and are sadly becoming a rarity in this era of professional athletes getting paid more money in a season than most of us will make in a lifetime. He is a true heart and soul player and would have seamlessly fit into any era of Flyers history. I think he and Kimmo Timonen were the last of the true Flyers old school hockey warriors that we've grown to love over the years. Although trading him is the smart and proper move to make, he will be greatly missed.

I've been within a few feet of it and could have easily touched it. I feel the same way as you do though.

Thanks.

Thanks. Reading about Simmonds makes today tough. So cool for Benji. Way to shake us from our sadness. That is a great memory!

So if Simmonds gets moved today who do you think moves up the lineup or benefits most? Kind of feel like Bailey could move up to that 3rd line and maybe see an increased role.

Bill,
I feel the same way. I had the opportunity twice, being up close and personal with Lord Stanely's Cup and I felt a sense of obligation to NOT touch it. Not only did I feel unworthy of touching something people work so hard to win, I didn't want to jinx our boys. If I make it to my 80's and we still haven't won it, I may rethink my position:-)

Bill, I haven't posted in a while (more lurking from time to time), but I wanted to say that that was a great post. Just an awesome tribute to Simmer, and the pic of your son and Bernie was awesome!

I'm going to miss Wayne ... easily my favorite Flyer.

I was at the game in when the Cup was at the WFC for its Centennial tour. My daughter and I got a pic with it but we were both afraid to even get too close to it; touching it was out of the question.

Biggest overreactions today will be Simmer moving and people not understanding the reasoning behind the trading of a popular player and Carter Hart being assigned to the Phantoms. Fletch better not be on FB today. Bunch of bozos.

Hart's situation even made TSN. "He's not going to Lehigh Valley. It's a paper move. Relax." I'm paraphrasing.

Elliott had been playing really well lately. If Hart played the way Elliott played in the stadium series we would all be singing his praises. Still not sure why we needed to make the Talbot trade but here we are.

Think Elliott could get us a third?

I would have been okay with trying to get a 3c with some term left. Giroux needs to be back at wing and who knows if Frost will be ready for a 3c role next year. Someone like Hayes or Coyle but whatever
