Hits making head contact, punches or even spears to the jolly sack can be debatable by situation, but stick swinging is not. Should be zero tolerance. I am fine with the games Gudas received and I would be fine if he got more. When someone has to justify it by saying he "missed", which in fact he clearly hit his visor, that says more about the person then the incident.

What they are is deeper (Okay maybe not the isles) and more sturcturally sound. The Canes don't have a lot of talent, but they have a lot of guys who are solid and work their asses off.

this team has a terrible record with teams like ottawa, nj, etc. they are 27 points behind tampa. they are not 1-2 players away from being in that discussion. i hope JR does not trade away his 1st round pick, finds someone to take on johnson's terrible contract (maybe someone who needs to get to the cap floor). letang steady puts himself in harms way and it cost him. but murrays performance this year (and last) is just plain old bad. 4 defensemen play their hearts out and he delivers a .892 save %? and then in his locker room interview, he said he didnt see the game tying goal. and finished it up with "it is what it is".
