If Zuke was seriously looking for a 5 year extension, then this was an easy pass for the Rangers. I love the guy, but wouldn't offer him anything greater than a 2 year deal at this point. Face it, he's not coming back...

It has rarely occurred in the history of NHL free agency, whereby a player who was traded at the deadline, had re-signed just a few months later as an F.A. in that same upcoming summer with the same team who had just dealt him. I mentioned that a week or so ago, to which I believe it was Tom who replied it happened with Doug Weight. But that must have been when Weight was playing elsewhere since he never returned to the Rangers after being traded for Tikkanen prior to the 1993 trade deadline. If it ever occurred again in the NHL, it would be with Zuuuuc re-signing with the Rangers this summer.

As for Hank, I was thinking on that as well, with him possibly being willing now to waive his NTC to be dealt by next season, but only to a top, true Cup contender. However, I still feel that his and his wife's great love for NYC and more, will still prevent that from ever happening, along due to his children being I believe, only 3 and 6 years of age as opposed to closer to 13. I'm sure he realizes that in being with just one NHL team for nearly 14 full seasons, he would at times have some closer buddies be departing some day, though none being closer to his best friend than Zuuuuc.

I agree with you, and can see a future trivia question becoming possible in about 30 years from now, with Zuccarello being the correct answer.

"What player after playing his first 509 NHL games with the Rangers prior to being traded just before the trade deadline, had gotten injured in his very first game played with his new team to miss the remainder of that regular season, and then just a few months later, re-signed in the same upcoming summer as a free agent with the Rangers?"

Zuuuuc fans may just have some hope again, with he becoming an NHL rarity if re-signing with the Rangers as a free agent, after having been just traded a few months earlier by them.

EK has as a latest rumor, the Preds, and the ..... Rangers being interested in acquiring Hoffman from the Panthers.
... as far as the Rangers doing so.
If that were the case, then re-sign Hayes long term today, without the worry of any outside hockey baggage history that the Hoffman family would bring along.
