Sully has a hand in that...who sits and who plays etc..forcing moves that make no sense. |

Refs suck is a fine argument if there are bad calls all around. When 1 team has 0 pps in an nhl game, something more is going on.
The Cullen call? BS. The Johnson call? Borderline BS. - buckster2342
This is BS. They gave you the game. Stole a point from a team ACTUALLY fighting to make the playoffs. |

The stupid penalty by Cullen led to the Flyer's second goal. The dumb icing by Chad Ruhwedel led to the Flyer's third goal. Murray sucked and largely has been inconsistent all year. I wouldn't mind Sully giving DeSmith more a chance to seize the #1 job. However, the general poor decision making by the skaters were a big problem, especially late in the game. They won 2 Cups by being smart and making good plays late in the game. Way too many blown leads in the 3rd period this season and general disorganization.
If Dumo/Letang are out longer term, this opens the door to a desperate move by Rutherford for a defenseman. He doesnt care about the future. He cares about now. I predict the Pens get a tough, poor skating defenseman. Only question is who and how bad of a price do we pay for it? |

That was fixed. We didn't get one PP. Enjoy. Great win. - madmike71
I'm finding comfort on the 4 D-man situation we went through. Ruhwedel and Jacko were good for us. |

Agree with all of this unfortunately. If letang is out long term they are done. No rental player is fixing that.

4 on 4 after Simmonds headshots dumoulin was evidence for how this game would be officiated. |

Cmon the refs suck equally as bad for the whole league. Saw quite a few calls let go on both teams.
Pens played a decent game despite having four Dmen the last two periods. - bird_dog_pa
lol the flyer thread goes into a riot everytime the pens win. most of your posters believe the league is rigged against philly. the justified indignation by pens fans over the last half of the third of today's game seems pretty mild in comparison |

I think no rental player fixes this even if Letang and Dumo are fine for the next game. The Penguins problems are internal. They arent missing pieces, their pieces are just missing the level they need to play at. Malkin, Hornqvist, & Kessel at least didnt look lost tonight. Murray continues to struggle. We can acquire all five of TSN's Best Players Available at the Deadline... it wont fix the underlying problem. This game confirmed to us what a lot of us were already seeing... this team has no resilience or situational mindset. They continue to just try to outgun teams rather than playing smart. Icing the puck after your center wins a faceoff in your own zone is just stupid. Cullen taking a penalty late in the 3rd period is just stupid. These guys have been around long enough to know better. Nothing we have seen lately shows us that this team does not have it this year.
We have had it every year for the last few years, we were bound to have a questionable year like this. Schultz missing months hurt this team also. If they get even 4 more points with him in the lineup during Nov/Dec/Jan, you have a whole new situation playoff wise. That is not an excuse because our problems are deeper than that, but it is important to note.
To me, you play the rest of this year out. No trade is going to put you over the edge. If you go dumpster diving within the last 30 minutes and grab a body for a late round pick or mid/low level prospect, that's fine. Absolutely do not trade your first round pick, do not trade any decent prospects (all 1-2 of them), and just focus on what is going wrong with your team. At the end of the day, this team will not win if their current line up doesnt change and get better. No trade fixes that problem. |

Yup, and I’m convinced it will be a half-assed move that will cost them their 1st. |

we should get ready to see another 3rd pairing dman walk thru the door. might even be oleksiak. the three round upgrade would make even wall streeters jealous of the repo. |

I unfortunately agree with this view to. Rutherford doesnt care about a first round pick maybe working out in 3-4 years. He cares about now. His shelf life is less than any player on this roster. He came here to win, not to give a damn about how ugly the future is. He wont be here for it and wont care.
This team is good enough to grab a playoff spot. I still think they are better than Columbus and I know they are better than Carolina and Montreal. Once you get into the playoffs, anything can happen. |

Hand Desmith the job at this point. He's not great but at least he doesn't embarrass himself like that. Gotta find someone in the off season. |

The sky is falling far to often on our board for sure. Emotion trumps objectivity most game nights.
The pens were their own worst enemy at the end of the game. Like I said the flyers didn’t really warn that win as much as got lucky. |

Murray never really earned it back...desmith took it and it was given back to Murray for I really dont know why. He has played like poop for two seasons now. Only time he looks competent is when someone else is pushing him for the job. You had him the reigns and he poops the bed constantly. |

You can't overcome that kind of tending however. Remember early in the season when softies were going in left and right. That's so deflating for a team. This dude gives up some of the worst soft goals I've ever seen in the NHL. His glove is barely AHL caliber.....barely. Now he's giving up all sorts of crap goals beyond pucks clanking off the glove. |

at the end of the day, the officiating didn't kill us but certainly didn't help. murray and the d shat the bed. and the '18 eagles showed up at lincoln financial in flyers jerseys. flyers stay alive another day and rutherford takes one more step towards becoming corrupted by power. congrats |

Trade the damn first for a goalie.
This team without those deflating goals and even just slightly better tending would have them hanging with the isles for first. |
