People keep harping on the defensive problems. Last time I checked, 6 teams in the NHL have allowed fewer goals this year than the Leafs. Rielly probably won't win but he has a chance to be on the stage when the Norris is presented. Muzzin is not bad, Dermott is not bad, they have two first round picks in the AHL that will be NHL players and a couple of Europeans that have a chance. Gardiner has one foot out the door, ditto for Hainsey. So the defensive problem must be Zaitsev - I agree with that. Trade that (frank)er already.

I won't even harp on Zaitsev because he's been playing with Gardiner so much. Overpaid, yeah. Term too long, no, it's WAY too long. But he'd be the ideal2b 3a Dman.

I do really like how we have guys coming up the pipe in Sandin and Timmay and that Dubas isn't moving them, I just think things need to be shored up bigtime for this year.

Yeah it took two trades but they finally got one involving Duchene right.

Man, trading a first to 'upgrade' from Turris to Duchene was suicide. If they can get something out of Stone they'll actually have done themselve a big favour in the long run, but it's painfully obvious Ottawa doesn't trade a well as they draft.

Honestly being 29 was the worst.. 30 and 31 were a lot better, so I’m not worried about getting a tad older.. as long as my body doesn’t prevent me from doing outdoorsy poop, I’m happy..

I think what’s being missed here is that Babcock was calling out his teams Defense, not the core. Yes, as stated above, the leafs goals against is actually pretty good, but they seem to have lapses team wide and that’s what Babcock is pointing out. This team needs to take it to another level defensively as a group to go all the way and I think that’s what Babcock is trying to make a point of.
