On the radio today they were talking about college players coming in at the end of their college season and burning a year of their ELC. Turns out, if they play fewer than 11 games (I think that was the number), they burn the first year of their ELC, but they do not burn a year of arbitration rights, AND, they are not eligible for an offer sheet as an RFA. So guys like Laine, Marner etc could sign a monster offer sheet screwing over the team in a cap crunch, but Boeser/Hughes cannot.

Benning might just be smarter than he looks.

I should have been more specific. Older meant more so for players nearing the end of their careers as opposed to players coming out of ELCs or bridge contracts.

I havent been to the royals in a while tbh. Havent had time. They arent doing too bad again this year though!

I spare on two teams, one old timers and another that thinks they are the tits. I like the older timers team. There I’m like Granlund, play up and down, chip in a little. On the better team I’m more like Gaunce...

Gillis "sucking" is hyperbole, just as much as people who think Benning is an actual moron/idiot. Both ridiculous statements made by people who feel the need to shout louder than the guys on the other side of the fence.



Gillis started off solid, but then was caught clinging onto a "stale team" as Torts put it


Benning isn't well spoken and it could easily be argued that he's in over his head as a President/GM of a team, but that doesn't mean he's an idiot.

Didnt like him as a person interview wise. Every GM does good and bad things. Would he be my first choice? No. Did he get results? Yes. Burke players Nonis players and Gillis players on a team where Gillis and Gilman were about to navigate the cap and add pieces to the tune of 2 presidents trophies. You can argue as much you want to against him but it was the best era of vancouver hockey ever. Now if and obviously it didnt happen but if we won game 7 I dont think there is anyway any canuck fan can possible say he wasn't the greatest GM we ever had. We didnt so we can debate away but he was 1 win away. That's all I'm saying is he was way better then the garbage we have now
