Edler wont be getting a decrease in his aav. I think it's safe he wont see less than 5 mill aav on no matter what term he is signed to.
- Codes1087

When Edler signed his last contract 6 years ago he averages 17.6 games missed per year and has scored 24.6 pts per season on average.

Those numbers won't get better IMO is that worth 6 mil?

Thanks Carol

It's to bad that it's Hughes that doesn't seem to want to sign, the longer it goes the more likely we lose him to his brother's team.

If I was JB I'd tell edler to let us trade him and we'd sign him to a 3 year 5m with a ntc on July first, otherwise the best offer would be a 2 year 4 million dollar deal, dropping to a 3m 1 year with a NMC.

Take it or leave it.

Also with edler on LTIR it means that a cap hit team like Tampa wouldn't need to worry about his cap hit and would basically be getting him just for the playoffs.

Nope lol

I personally would rather offset term with money though. Give him 1 year at 6.5 and see how his body holds up.

Worst case scenario is we sign him to 3 years and give him protection. Bieksa was signed and protected and it forced the ducks to expose Theodore (I believe). Edler shouldnt be needing protecting when Seattle has its draft imo.

It's over two years away, so much could change for the Canucks between now and then, I honestly don't see it as an issue. Hopefully a full NTC, not a full NMC.

I seen that, wasn't it accidental , we have had so many hits like that on canucks and nothing.

I agree. That's why I dont get it when people dont care about losing Hughes eligibility for not needing protection. Its easy to see that we barely have enough bodies that warrant protection today, but so much can change from now until the draft. Roster could look significantly different by then

I can't believe people here are talking about a NTC or NMC ? Are you kidding me?

Soon as I hear NTC I say enjoy your next team and pocket the 6 mil

That's why you're a tv repairman and not a general manager in the NHL

Most veteran players ask for some type of protection and get it, it's just the way it is.

Cap has also gone up, so even if he has declined, his agent can still easily make a case for the same salary or even a slight raise lol

you should ask Benning this lol

I feel like older players care more about these clauses than younger players do.

I would think they'll look for comparable players, depending on who they pick but Marc-Edward Vlasic is a similar player, although he's not overused like Edler because they have Burns and now Karlsson.

MEV makes 7 million with a NMC, signed his deal this year at age 31.

Dear Neem,

Could you please get your poop together and beat Lefty in this weeks fantasy matchup? It's necessary for my slim playoff hopes to come to fruition.

Kindest regards,
Northy

I wouldnt have a clue what this extension looks like. My preference again is a high value 1 year contract no clauses. I imagine we see a 3 x 5.5-6.5 aav contract though with some sort of trade or movement protection.

Ya, not really. Pretty league wide: https://www.thefourthperiod.com/no-trade-clauses

Highest amount on a team (2 of them): 10
Lowest amount: 2

Canucks have 6, including Edler. That includes varying levels of NTC. It's pretty standard around the league man. Canucks would fall pretty much in the median. If you didn't resign Edler, I'm sure he would get a NTC from another team, so that's not really the issue.
