Did Skinner play much after coming back ? Hope he's OK and it's not a lingering thing. That sh!t is gonna be sore tomorrow ...

Yes, he played his normal shift with Eichel and Pominville in the 3rd.

I wouldn't say Darcy 2.0 just we have ammo but he will be very watchful as to what and how he makes deals. Just because Monday may be slow doesn't mean he won't do anything. Stone deal won't happen if you are thinking him.

Imagine if he had a legit 2nd line center.

Still got faith in Mitts.

Reminds me of Skunk in a way. Needs to get stronger.

I'm not expecting to see a deal made where I wish JB out-bid the other team. Will be a fun day, even if it's quiet.

You’re raging hard on to play an extra week and a half of hockey blows my mind. If there is a trade to be made that improved the “future”’of the team then by all means. Those trades are also done during the offseason for the most part. Don’t know many teams trading guys with term during the season.

It seems there is a bit too much gloating about 23 on the boards today. Has he had a nice stretch? Absolutely. However, this is really the first time that he's done much of anything away from Jack - lets see if it continues.

I think what is misunderstood about his critics is that I don't think anyone wants him run out of town. I just wish that someone drafted second overall would be more dynamic. After all, we wouldn't be wishing for a 2C if he could play there. He doesn't skate well enough to play at that spot and it is downright frightening to put him out there in OT because he gets abused. Sure, he is an elite passer... I don't see him pushing for an all-star spot any time soon.

The best I can say is not every 2nd overall pick is the same kind of player and not every player develops on the same timeline.

No I know better than that, but christ bring someone in that can help this team, even if it's someone with some grit.

That is 100% spot on at least for my case. I’ve always thought he could have a career here similar to Pominville in his prime. Like you said though, 2nd overall picks to me have to be elite. If Reinhart can continue to improve maybe he can hit that level like Wheeler and Stone did around the age of 24-25. He has been great this year though and is finally starting to show the franchise what we thought we were getting when we drafted him.

Goals aside, if Sam worked/battled every game the way he did tonight, everyone would love him.

That's absolutely true. I just fear that his ceiling will be an elite complimentary player and not someone that can drive play themselves. I had hoped that his ceiling might be somewhere in the neighborhood of Adam Oates but that was when he was at center.

Elite players drafted at 2nd overall is not the norm.

Malkin, Hedman, Doughty, Seguin, Eichel, Barkov, Laine (until this tough stretch he’s been on).

Certainly not always. It's tough because Draisaitl was taken in the next spot (and larkin later on) - I'd much rather have him.

Number 2 overall picks from 1995-2015:

Wade Redden, Andrei Zyuzin, Patrick Marleau, David Legwand, Daniel Sedin, Heatley, Spezza, Kari Lehtonen, Eric Staal, Malkin, Bobby Ryan, Jordan Staal, Van Riemsdyk, Doughty, Hedman, Seguin, Landeskog, Ryan Murray, Barkov, Reinhart, Eichel

Summary: even the number 2 overall isn't always an elite player.

Can’t argue about Draisaitl, but look on the bright side, at least it wasn’t Sam Bennett.

How many out of that group are elite? I'd go with 8, which is roughly 40%.

I can make a case that rhino is in the 10-15 range on that list. If he continues on his trajectory then I may revise the list.

He's a bazillion times better than Larkin, Nylander, Drai and Pasta combined.

You're crazy.
