The only real way that I would understand it would be when you look at our current contracts, there are two that apparently are not going anywhere (2,7) and you end up with a logjam of players and nowhere to play them. if you can move one of the stockpile of d-men for real asset for now and the future, I'm fine with it.

That said, if they do it for Stone or Panarin, I'm sending my laundry bill to 1901 W. Madison because I'll crap myself in anger.

I agree but you look back to 2008-09....the Hawks needed a puck moving, offensive defensemen and over paid for Campbell because they had to at the time. So I view Gustafsson in the same light as that piece. Now can one of these young prospects fill that void? Sure.....but I see 56 as a huge bonus given his contribution and his cap hit.

As you stated, hawks are at mercy of 2/7 and NMCs nothing is never off the table, but can't count on it. That's why if the younger kids do hit, I think the guy that moves is Murphy. I don't view him as a top 4 pairing d man, adds very little offensively, and is erratic in his own end.....and I know somebody is going to post advanced stats to combat this, but I just don't see the value in him long term.

Having see all those guys play I'd agree on Boqvist having the highest ceiling but I think Mitchell may be the most NHL ready and will be the safest bet to make the Hawks and stay in the NHL because he has a sound two way game.

Now that Duchene is off the market teams will dial in on Kevin Hayes. Sources says a few teams have inquired about trading for both Hayes and Zuccarello. #aggressive

Here's a little nugget on the Duchene deal: Matt Duchene's agent is Pat Brisson, who also represents Seth Jones, Alex Wennberg and Pierre Luc Dubois. Dots to connect here.

Maybe his thought is to move one of the D prospects for a Top 6 prospect or 2. That is a trade for the future.
- Elbows15

I don't disagree or a pick.

Im ok with a trade for the future but there is zero chance they are getting a high end rental. Doesn't make sense. Can't afford to do it.

yeah but you think Perlini could become a PK guy. He has no clue out there.
- Elbows15

Sine he is one of the few guys over 6’ tall, think the plan is to just have him lay completely across the goal line taking away the lower half of the net. The goalie can then concentrate on just the upper half. This would be very useful because it’s an area Delia has to show some improvement on.

Pat Brisson is the Alan Eagleson of his time. He also represents Toews and Kane, Crosby, Kopitar, Giiroux, etc. etc. he even has represented Chelios, so I don't see the dots, can someone help me out?

Considering this time of year, I was wondering:

Are there any deals from the past two years that you wish were not made (obviously, having the current hindsight)?

I've only got two, Pararin/Saad (mostly for the way it messed up the overall makeup of the team), and trading a 3rd for Jurco (why?).

I respect John but an agent's job is what is best for each client. He may have a ton of guys on a particular team that doesn't mean a thing in regards to Duchene if Duchene has zero interest long term signing in Columbus. Columbus can try, but like Panarin all these UFAs have earned the right to test UFA and see what is out there.

Knowing this, Columbus is all in and Im sure they'll explore everything between now and Monday to load up and shorten the gap between them and tampa.

Zawaski:

I'm told that trading one of the Hawks big 4 defensive prospects (Beaudin, Boqvist, Jokiharju, Mitchell) is not off the table. There's a log jam in the organization, especially since it doesn't look like #2 or #7 want to go anywhere.

- mrpaulish

Mitchell I'd move before the others. He wasn't great just average in the WJC. Sure he could help now in some ways. The other three have greater ceiling.

Beaudin

can play defense. He could be here soon if he turned pro..He can play defense now in the Quebec league and it is apparent that it is just adjusting to a quicker pace. He just reads and does things well. You can see he knows how and is good. His issue is small size.but thst ia not stopping teams as everyone wants 2-3 fast puck movers and the puck control overrides the size disadvantage..You put skill and can play defense + skating WOW. Two good examples of rookies with ability this year: Heskanen and Chytill. The fast skill type and of course Dahlin for Buffalo. See if you are really good at certain things, you can impact. Just do not be horrible at other end or not care - like Gus.

Jokiharju

Will be one of your top dmen on the team
A leader, vocal. Have you seen him as the leader for Finland in the WJC..Have you read AEL_FOX report on him in Rockford?

Boqvist

He will be the leader on offense for your team one day. He has elite special skill. The edge with in skating. I suggest it will be a process of a few years until he is ready to play defense un the NHL it is a temptation to dress him NHL too soon but it won't be next season. The reason you can wait for Boqvist is due to

Several dmen - mist are in Rockford now- are progressing and the beautiful thing here is that they have the skill set to mix a d match with your top rated prosoe r dmen studs. I particularly like Carlsson for several reasons. Gilbert may have moved ahead of Hillman. Kryz has worked hard to improve his game and is an elite fast puck carrier.. Galvas was for the Czech team what Jokiharju was for Finland.

Do not trade these guys for a Wenneberg. Columbus will be launching them soon enough while Wenneberg is...oh he ok but he won't solve your issues let alone be a difference maker allowing you to get into the post season

I think everyone would appreciate it if your posts weren't so set in stone. None of us know what the front office is thinking or who they are taking calls on.

The only difference between us and people like LeBrun and Friedman, et al. are a couple of low level employees and the first text from a FO. Other than that, we're all full of poop and are trying to have fun figuring out what to do.

- CanOCorn

A bit of logic from Taylor would be much appreciated as well.

There is ABSOLUTELY no reason for a player with a NMC to fake an injury to avoid a trade. The mere presence of the NMC makes Seabrook a Blackhawk for the remainder of the contract, unless SEABROOK decides to waive it to move sonewhere.

Please, we cannot defy contract law to trade a player one doesn’t like anymore.

Well, Panarin and BOB aint going anywhere now.

Good for Columbus. They are desperate. Also they have never won a playoff series right ? Some very good teams but no series wins?

It is just the usual JJ bullpoop click bait. There is nothing there. Brisson has players on every team I would guess.

Mitchell might not return very much at this with the possibility of him staying all 4 years. I would say it would not be Joki (unless the return was massive) or Beudin since he is a LD and all the others are RD. Boquist and Mitchell would be my guess.

He's not saying much. No one is untouchable on any team if the price is right. The only thing that makes a player untouchable is a NTC or NMC. If there is an offer that Bowman can't refuse he'll make almsot any trade. Hopefully he takes age into consideration when making any moves.
- paulr

I think he is, since last year that's exactly what he's done. The worry is McDonough whispering in Rocky's ear, we need to make a splash, margarita night like tonight, can only go so far, it worked for the Cubs, trade young assets away for grizzled old vets and fans will keep coming. But i trust Rocky, i think he's a fan first and like me its about the big picture.

I think he's insinuating that since Brisson is the agent for a bunch of Columbus players that he has let Jarno know that Duchene will sign with Columbus ... you know ... on the "QT".

Which is why I think they’re all in for this spring - and not going to move either of the Russians.

They would likely lose both this summer anyways and be a disaster going forward - might as well go out with a major explosion and try to satisfy what fans they have with some kind of a run (like an actual first round win) now.

I need another trade. The Duchene one has me all pumped/hyper. Or it could be the third diet Mr Dew I just finished today....?

Oh, and I mean any trade. Not just Hawks trades (which I don't think will happen at all).
