Bruce Garrioch, who is as plugged in as anyone for his respective team, an hour ago said in regards to Dzingel:

"Led to believe Chicago has been in a group of teams that has shown some interest as well."

- TommyHawk

I would hate to give up significant assets to obtain Dzingel now when he could be had for free July 1. He alone would not put us over the top in this current season anyways.

This will aggravate some, but Powers says the Hawks have "no interest" in trading Gus.
- mohel

thats fine...he is low cost for another year and see if he continues this booby orr impersonation and/or improves defensively...or move him next year

What's the word on Kruger? I have not seen or heard anything after he was pulled last night. Sucks if he got hurt and we had a deal to move him on Monday.

he took a blast to the lower leg area...i suspect that sucker swelled up and hurts like hell today

JL or TC
I was wondering that this year rumors regarding the Blackhawks trades seems to been very tight lippped.
Could a possible reason be that when Q was fired that shifted the front office around and some of the sources that was getting access to potential moves are not getting them now?

- ShamRockShark

One reason for that is that the current blogger does not make up rumors.

It really does sound like that when you hear JC talk about him (which is why I joked yesterday that maybe HE is the coach who hates youngsters).

He mentions that Joki is young, that he'll get his opportunity, that he needs to learn to play against men, etc. etc.

I also wonder if he's trying to poke some holes in Joki's ego which was pretty big when he first came up. Fine balance there and have to be concerned about killing the confidence and high morale he needs along with it.

- pdx2ord

There's been a few articles talking about his confidence being shaken, and scouts saying he looks timid playing against men. I think JC is trying to protect him rather than deflate his ego. He's 19.

If Gus was doing a Bobby Orr impersonation he would already be elite defensively, and he would be the best offensive PLAYER in the league.

Gus is doing his best Keith Yandle 2013-14 impersonation.

Wow on the Garrioch comments.

I mean he is IN THE KNOW with Ottawa. Who knows why he said that ? Helping drive up the price or legit reporting. Very very interesting.

Code for "hey, team we've been negotiating with, his hometown Hawks are sniffing around; better up your offer."

Or the Hawks are gonna trade for him....

With Eklund reporting Shayne Gostisbehere could be dealt then it's probably 100% false, but it got me to thinking...

If he was available, this would be the type of player the Hawks should target to revamp the top 4 defensemen.

Not sure what he'd cost since he's got a pretty cap friendly deal and he's only 25, but maybe something like:

Saad, Forsling, and a 4th rounder

for

Gostisbehere and a 6th rounder

Depending on how even the trade would need to be, the Hawks could add something else instead of Forsling to make the deal closer.

Makes sense. Time for me to stop worrying and trust the hockey minds to know how best to handle his development.

Well LA here is how you run a business and here is how you hire key people. You don’t just hire a person you happen to have around. You hire someone who is highly intelligent and confident not arrogant. Someone who has experience. You look for the special attributes that set that person apart. You look at the success they have had in the positions they have had.

For an NHL position I would look at Assistant Coaches who are universally respected and have paid their dues. I would not just hire a NHL re-tread. In special circumstances you can look at highly successful NHL coaches that need a change of scenery or were treated unfairly - see Long Island, Toronto and Vegas.

You can also look at AHL coaches who have paid their dues over a long period of time and have been great at development.

In other very special circumstances you can look at University Coaches or CHL Coaches with high levels of success. This is especially true if the resume also has other coaching or management roles listed. For example the London Knights could be a constant source of NHL hockey people if anyone wanted to leave.

So who would I hire for the key position of HC of the Hawks? I don’t know but I do know that I would have a large stack of very impressive resumes of highly qualified people available at that point in time. Just like I have always done when I have hired people to work for me. Finally, Colliton’s resume would not even be in the pile.

So what you’re really saying is Bowman is an idiot that’s in way over his head and you’d be able to do a better job than him. Ok then!

Sorry, Z, I was responding generally to the topic of Joki in the minors. Do you think they actually believe Forsling is better than Joki? Any chance they're just saying the "standard thing" when the youngster gets sent down? I suspect so, bro.
- mohel

I thought I heard a while back that the scouting report on Joki going around the league was run him early and he gets off his game and loses that swagger he has. Let the kid grow in the AHL he’s 19. He’s already better than several current hawks D-men but you can’t as an organization come out and say that. No reason to risk his development track. If the Hawks feel like he should be in the minors then he should be. The hawks front office may have a few issues but the scouts and hockey people they have know their stuff.

I feel a disturbance in the force involving Dzingel for Kruger plus some young D man going the other way.

All other fast food chicken sandwiches maybe.

Better than the like of Budlong? The Roost? Reno? Honey Butter or Parson’s?

Hmmm....no.

From The Athletic.

It’s no surprise the Blackhawks re-assigned Henri Jokiharju to the Rockford IceHogs on Saturday. Considering he played just 9:14 on Friday night, it was apparent the Blackhawks viewed him as simply an emergency call-up rather than someone who could potentially stay up. It was Jokiharju’s career-low NHL ice time. His lowest ice time before that was 12:55, which was what he played in his last game before being sent to Rockford.

Despite the limited minutes Friday, Jokiharju performed well. In 5-on-5 play, he was on the ice for 15 shot attempts for and nine assists and eight shots on goal for and five against. He was on the ice for one goal against, which came on Koekkoek’s turnover.

If the Hawks are, actually, trying to win and make the playoffs, shouldn’t they be playing the best 6 defensemen? I believe if you are driving positive possession, you are part of the solution, not the problem.

What was great about it? That the Hawks gave up a bunch of avoidable goals, in the most meaningful game they have played in two seasons, and lost? A great game can be a loss but only if the losing team plays smart, hard hockey but just gets bested that night. A great game is not one where the losing team invents ways to give the game away.
- Z3Hawk

Alright you have a point. Good teams try not to give the game away and responsible with and without the puck. Yet we all know that hockey is a game of turnovers. Outsmarting. Out maneuvering and outplaying the opposition is desirable. So into a mess walks Colliton. He works with what he has.on the roster. Did you see the sort of roster and strategy he employed, how his employees (the players) had a system and a role last season which culminated in the Rockford Icehogs long playoff run?

The assemblage of players this season is not parallel to the standard of our Cup wins. None of the "B" boys - such as Bolland, Bickell, Burrish, Big Buff, Bourque too and Eager as well - have counterparts on this season's team.

So can we just root for our team, worts they have and unique players too (Gus) because I really thnk a couple posters in particular love negativity and being critical. We all are Blackhawk fans first and foremost. Anyway I do not think Bowman"s ideal team ia structured the way he prefers and not exactly a good mine Colliton inherited. A good coach tries to get the most out of his talent, after all.

One of the biggest stories on this team is the emergence of Gus. Whether wants to or is able to perform better defensive hockey is something we beg to see. Whether he gets traded eventually - say after some prospects are able to take his or another dman's job - is something to debate. I really doubt he changes address this season and I absolutely believe he plays even a lot although maybe his TOI could be managed differently if the personnel was different. With the aim to improve through the draft, Gus is an obvious trade chip whose value may increase, decrease or stay about the same as it is now BUT his value comes with playing time.

Exciting time even if we are not enthralled with the coach and style of play.

Auto accidents are exciting too, but I wouldn’t want to be involved in one.
