Mackenzie said Sens could be looking at a 4 piece trade for Stone, including 2 firsts, and 2 good prospects...
I'm as big a Stone fan as the next guy, but that seems really high. - david22
I doubt the Sens get that. I don't doubt they are asking for that. I'm not sold they can get more for Stone than they got for Karlsson (which a package like that would be).
I'm disappointed that a trade hasn't happened yet if you are benching guys. Ryan says the mood was sombre in the dressing room and Smith looked defeated during his 1st intermission interview. The effort on the ice was pure poop. This situation has been poorly handled and the players you are choosing to keep deserve better. What good comes from benching guys during a weekend full of games and speculation? Pull the trigger. Quit hanging around doing squat.
I saw some good points online that even if you are able to move the big 3 UFAs, there are still other guys that need attention. Andy (asked for a trade), Ryan (been on the salary dump block for 2 seasons), and Smith (waived). Blame Melnyk all you want, but Dorion has done Richard all this season to address anything to try and get any direction at all. Granted the guys mentioned can be moved later, but at some point this dressing room mood will just implode if it hasn't already.

One of those 1st round picks could be conditional on Stone signing an extension, at which point you're left with a subjective definition of what makes up a "good" prospect. Would players like Chlapik and Lajoie qualify as "good" prospects? If so, then you're not really getting that much back.
What a gong show. I might be in the minority, but I feel it’s insulting to fans to sit players who are perfectly healthy to play, even if they will be traded in 24 hours. I see the side where you don’t want to have them injured, but geezz.
While Melnyk is running the show, but it’s embarrassing that Dorion is trying to fit a year’s worth of work into one week. Stone and Duchene decisions should have been decided ages ago. What does the guy even do the rest of the year? - Gord_Wilson_2.0
Yes, you are in the minority.
The Sens would be incredibly stupid to risk injury if they know they are trading these guys. This is the future of the franchise at stake and you are worried about annoying some fans because they aren't playing. Really.
The clown show that is the Ottawa Senators is all about terrible ownership. It all flows down from there.
A lot of fingers get pointed at Dorion. He gets to be the face for all of this embarrassment. But he has his hands tied by Melnyk.
First it was years of short-sighted moves to try to get into the playoffs so Mr. Shallow Pockets could get a round of playoff revenue. That house of cards has crumbled so now it is cutting salary costs, trading away all the team's best players and calling it a rebuild.
Dorion should probably be an Assistant GM not a GM. But his is willing to do the job on a cheap salary and be the owner's puppet - so he is the GM. To make it worse, he has the thinnest Hockey Ops department in the league to support him.
Everything that is happening is due to a toxic, micro-managing owner that can't really afford an NHL team.

Okay guys, this is the hard part. Despite being angry and frustrated we have to suck it up and stand strong in our opposition to an ownership that effectively and entirely destroyed the public trust that comes in the owning of an NHL franchise.
This has always been about LeBreton. Ownership is hanging on by their fingernails hoping to squeeze one last big pay day out of this franchise. The business community, government agencies and fans have all been treated with the same level of disrespect. This is not a time to allow yourself to become too angry. This is the time to allow yourself to become disappointed and resolute in seeing this through to the end.
Hang on. We are at the break point. It is profoundly dark in Mudville. The dawn is near. All of this was apparent to anyone who was prepared to look.
Stay strong. Support the Sens. Quietly, firmly and consistently insist on the obvious changes needed.

Didn’t realize admitting one has a minority opinion would create such backlash from people like you and sensarmy, but here we are. I get the injury thing, but it’s still an odd concept to me. The writing has been on the wall all year that these guys were getting traded. Should they have benched them then too? I feel the same when teams “rest” guys before the playoffs.
Again, I get the risk of injury factor. I just hope these guys are traded sooner than Monday so it’s not multiple games of multiple guys “sitting”. It just looks like a joke really.
Giving a poop about the fans is not a bad thing. Maybe if this franchise did, we wouldn’t be talking about this at all.

I think MOST Sens fans would feel your optimism in a rebuild if it wasn't for Ownership and Dorion. Dorion is really just an Assistant GM at this point on the VERY cheap. What owner gives an extension to his GM after he completely mis-evaluates his team from "over the top" to rebuild mode in less than 3 months? What's the point of getting assets and grooming them for other teams because Eugene doesn't want to pay them market value.
Rebuilds can be an exciting time watching the kids grow, (I was a Sens fan from year 2) but it looks like no one wants to sign or resign here, but only if it's one of their last options. So expect to see a revolving door of good young talent leave. Oh, and don't forget that this team will be dismantled again in about ?7? years after "unparalleled success."

I have never believed the Sens were going to sign any of the players since they settled on a one year contract with Stone last summer. I think they have managed the exact outcome they wanted. The last minute negotiations to resign these guys is merely window dressing.
It is clear to everyone this morning that it has always been about the money. Everything is now stripped away. We need an ownership and a financial solution. Everything else is secondary.

well there still the slim hope that the haul could be good for both...
then it could be a quick turnaround in lets say 3 years - Xizord
I can't see this team ever turning around unless a new owner comes in.....Melnyk is bleeding money and won't be able to re-sign any of these young guys.
Chabot will need a new contract after next year, it's going to be a massive raise....can't imagine Melnyk will have the money to do it.......boom, traded
same for tkachuk, and any other young star who will demand big money.

The issue to me the structure of big contracts which include signing bonuses which Melnyk will never be able to do. He will have to sign some of these young guys if he wants to get to the cap floor but players want security and singing long-term signing bonus contracts gives them that. Melnyk can’t shell out big cheques one day of the year. It’s another hole this franchise will fall into with Melnyk at the helm.

yup
99.9% of the problems this organization has starts and finishes with Melnyk
faulk is a 26 year old, 2nd pairing guy who's a UFA next year
Gauthier is, at best, a C prospect
the 1st is nice
the 2 conditional picks are a joke
even as a rental, you aren't getting a top line center for that return.
try:
Necas, 2019 1st, 2020 3rd, conditional 2020 2nd (1st if he re-signs)
for Duchene - sensarmy_11
Ok.
You dismissed pretty quickly. We'll be lucky if we get anything close to that for any of the three. Seriously. Magic beans incoming. I'd like all the picks we do get to be unprotected 2020 1st rounders. This year's draft is a wash. Lets just pretend its not happening.

You aren't getting Necas a 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
PLus if you aren't taking back a contract somewhere, how in the hell are you going to hit the cap floor? Right now you're about $15 million short of where the floor is expected to be for next season.

and you arent' getting a top line center for a bunch of mediocre pieces
at the end of the day, there are simply too many interested teams, and Duchene and stone are too good, for Dorion not to get a much better return than what you suggested.
hell, if you believe Mackenzie and all them, the package from Nashville would include Tolvanen.....I would take him alone over what you offered.
