Edmonton #Oilers need better players, not draft picks. Willing to trade several, if not most, players on the current roster but want players back in return #NHL

Schwein: Kreider and Smith for Lucic, Manning and the Oilers 1st?

No we moved at the perfect time for that contract. But even Jimbo, who has been Team Lias since he was drafted is now a little concerned he might not pan out. So it can't be "Way better."
- tomburton99

Just getting rid of the contract plus his declining play puts it in that category for me, even if Lias never turns into anything other than a 3rd liner

neither one of them would waive their NTC clauses for Edmonton

Lias Andersson turns into a bottom 6 forward it can't be better. It just can't.

No Tj. Derek Stepan was a Ranger in 2016-2017. It can't be year 3 man. It's just not possible. Stepan has only been a Yote 2 years.
- tomburton99

The 2017 season ends to Ottawa, then Stepan is traded...they get pick 7 and deangelo-that starts it, year one...they’ve already said to themselves poop let’s rebuild, we can’t win with this group...

A Smoke and mirrors season starts happening before Mac Nash Grabner are traded, they’re traded, that’s year two...

Now Hayes Zucc, year 3...

It is possible

Edit: it’s two and half years actually if you wanna be precise. I’m counting two off seasons as one which it technically is because of subsequent moves they made

So you would rather have Stepan here than Lias as a 3rd liner?

I agree with this logic but Lias WILL be better than that anyway. Book it.

No. I said they moved Stepan at the right time. They just didn't get enough for him.

If they don't win the lottery and draft either Hughes or Kakko I will find you and I will kill you.
- JRR1285

Flagged.
This sort of thing will get you a 3 year ban!!!

Ok, but thats not what I said, I said its a way better option not having Stepan here"now".

Maybe Lias figures it out, maybe he doesn't, but really no one from the draft right now is exciting, especially where we were picking. I also recall you wanting the guy with spina bifida

I disagree because. Just because.

They did well in a poopty situation. I liked Stepan but that contract was like a noose.

Just cause someone gets traded doesn't mean its a rebuild. Stepan got traded for a way better option. That has nothing to do with a rebuild.

Plus you crap in buckets....

- mdw7413

You guys seem to be forgetting,
Stepan got traded because his salary was higher than his worth, and he had a very restricting movement clause about to kick in. Those are the sole reasons why he had to go.

edit:
Ok, you didn't forget anything. I just hadn't read to the end yet!

Yeah not a great look for me. When he's healthy he's good. He's just got bones made of dust.

Yea I get that. I edited that, it’s 3 big rebuilding things they did tho is my point. 2.5 years I guess

Thats why I think for now, I don't know if there really was better option than Lias. Will have to see in a few more years.

I don't know. You think if Lias centered the 3rd line this whole season he wouldn't match those points?

Plus he wasn't on the radar with the 9th pick

People still forget it could be ADA that makes this trade worth it from the Rangers point of view. I don't think he ever makes the first pair, but I can easily see ADA as a second pairing guy who can run a power play. If ADA makes it to this potential, that alone makes it a win for the Rangers. Then, you add in the Lias could be a cost controlled two way center and it becomes a huge boon.
